How to follow #salesharks on Twitter

Like it or loathe it, Twitter is here to stay, so for those of you who may be new to the scene, here are the Tweeters to follow:

The club, oddly, has two ‘Official’ Twitter accounts. The most popular in terms of followers is found at salesharksruby and describes itself as “The OFFICIAL Sale Sharks professional rugby union club Twitter page”. There have, however, been no new tweets since 7th September.

The second ‘Official’ site is found at TheSaleSharks and describes itself as “the ONLY official Sale Sharks Twitter account”. This site has been active since the 14th October and tweets on average about once per day repeating the news items posted on Sale’s official website. It is run by ‘MediaManSharks’, which is one of Dave Swanton’s Twitter identities. Swanny does however have his own personal Twitter account at SwannyMediaMan, but has not tweeted for several weeks.

 While the above sites are fine for updates of the official news outlet, there is also the rugby_sale account which does the same job by re-tweeting Sale-related stories, not just those from the Official website.

Probably better than all the above, and certainly more prolific, is the more controversial SaleRugbyNews account, which describes itself as “An independent site for rumours and news and all things Sale Sharks” run by ‘Sale Sharks Fans’. Tweeting since the summer, tweets have already passed 1700 and include news reports as above, match reports and live game updates as well as opinion and rumours (including those from this very board). Personally I also like ‘on this day in history’ tweets, but I’m a bit of a statto saddo!

Another recent and welcome addition is salesharksMEN, which is authored by Manchester Evening News rugby correspondent Neil Leigh and is the best site for live match updates as well as often being the first to break injury and transfer news.

As for personal sites, Ben Cohen, Chris Jones, Jack Forster and Tom Brady are all tweeting regularly, as well as several former players including Richard Wigglesworth, Mark Taylor and Magnus Lund. Up until the Autumn Internationals, Charlie Hodgson was also a regular tweeter, although the clamp down by England has meant that he has, for the time being at least, gone quiet.

If you were only going to follow one account, I’d probably recommend SaleRugbyNews, but that would miss the point as it’s just as easy to follow them all!
