Sale Sharks Announce First Game at Edgeley Park

The are calling it a pre-season 'friendly' but any meeting between Sale Sharks and Leicester Tigers is bound to be "red in tooth and claw"
Sale Sharks have announced their first game of the season - a 'friendly' against Leicester Tigers. The game will be played at Edgeley Park on 29th August - kick off 7.45 pm. I'm not sure any game against the Tigers can be called friendly especially as they will be going all out this year to prove that last year's poor showing was a 'blip' rather than serious loss of form. There is nothing more dangerous than a wounded Tiger - unless of course it is a hungry Shark!
Sharks Summer Shorts
With the summer signings in mind I paid particular attention to Jason White's contribution to the Scottish team during their tour of South Africa and was very impressed with his work rate. Finlay Calder writing about the tour in the Scotsman said:
"The main man for me, however, is Jason White. He has to become our Martin Johnson; he has to metamorphose and become more menacing, more demanding; he has to start snarling and put the fear of God in the opposition, just as the England captain does. He is up to the task for sure, but he just has to believe in himself. He has to become our forward leader."
No worries Finlay - a season with Jim and Steve will put the snarl into his game!
With one more game to play the Churchill Cup tour to Canada and the USA seems to be going very well for the coaching duo. It has been very disappointing that none of the games have been shown on television. Dave Swanton has reported that Sky plan to show a highlights package on July 9th.
Two more open days at Edgeley Park have been announced. Sunday 29th June from 2-5 pm and Thursday 3rd July 6-9 pm. This is a highly recommended outing for those of you who haven't been down there yet. The facilities are very impressive all over but especially so in the newer Robinson Brewery Stand.
Lastly - congratulations to Apollo Perelini on his appointment to the coaching staff alongside Steve Hampson. It is wonderful to see Apollo staying with Sale Sharks as he is a great favourite with the fans - always willing to sign autographs and to stand and chat after a game! Good luck to Marty Hulme as he takes his great skill north of the border.
