A Meeting of Eds
A Meeting of Eds
By an insider
August 8 2003
The inagural meeting of the Sale supporters' website editorial committee was held last night (7th August) at the Little B. The meeting was lively and involved beer.
The meeting was delayed by the late appearance of one member (that being approximately the term used) with a spurious account of being held up in a supposed perpetual traffic jam known by the frankly unlikely name of "Ormskirk".
The
meeting became fully quorate at 8:45 and the first question addressed:
"what are you drinking?" A sub-committee of one was then formed with a
mandate to examine the beverages on offer and select a suitable candidate for
purchase, with particular reference to taste, body and colour. After due
deliberation, the sub-committee reported back: "Bombardier". Another
sub-committee was immediately convened and charged with obtaining a pint of
Bombardier from the bar staff. Funds were made available for the task.
The early matters disposed of, the committee adjourned to the outside tables
and resumed discussion. It was readily agreed that the lads would do well to
finish 3rd or 4th this season, with consolidation being the name of the game.
Further discussion revealed a belief that the signing of Braam van Straaten
would "help with the kicking if Charlie's not around". It was also
unanimously agreed that England beating Australia in Australia left the
committee feeling "chuffed to little mintballs" and that it is
probably the most enjoyable experience that one can have whilst still being
upright.
Conversation then moved on to what on earth was left to put on the extras discs of the extended version of "The Two Towers" when it comes out, since there was so much packed on the "Fellowship of the Ring" extended version. Also discussed were the body, explosion and wrecked car count in Terminator3 (all sufficiently high) and "Hulk: is it better than the reviews suggest?" (yes).
At
this point, an emergency motion was proposed and it was unanimously agreed that,
yes, everyone did fancy another pint. A sub-committee was again formed, mandated
to re-enter the establishment and negotiate the vending of some alcoholic
imbibables, to whit: two pints of Bombardier and a pint of Lager. An executive
decision had to be made during the transaction, when the sub-committee member
was asked: "which lager"? In the absence of explicit directions from
the main committee, the sub-committee responded in time-honoured fashion:
"the cheapest".
Discussion now moved on to the last item on the agenda: the Sale supporter's website. After a lengthy discussion, it was agreed that the editor's ought to "get their fingers out and do something".
Meeting adjourned at 10:25
