Dan joined the Tykes from West Hartlepool in 2000, & after a series of injuries when he was in and out of the side, he finally established himself in the Tykes back row in our first season in the Zurich Premiership.

Dan is the Tykes' back row terminator, and has been used by Phil Davies at both open and blind side flanker. He is also a useful source of lineout ball, and was increasingly used for this purpose, especially when Tom Palmer was injured.

After the Tykes played at Welford Road last year, the BBC website gallery included a picture of Dan involved in a rather physical exchange of views with a certain Mr. Johnson of the Tiggers, as Mally puts it, Dan is 'always in the middle of the rough stuff' . "Eddie Jones" dropped into the official message board to say that 'Dan Hyde throws his body on the line every weekend'. Oopnorth commented that Dan's 'work-rate and tackling are awesome'. Dan is certainly an uncompromising player, and embodies the never say die spirit of the Tykes.

Away from the game, according to his profile on the official website Dan enjoys fly fishing, however, a one off visitor to the MB 'Not in the Know' alluded to a few Dan Hyde anecdotes that are not fit for publication of a friendly family site such as this!

Ultimately, a fit and firing Dan Hyde is an important part of the Tykes first 15. When Dan is on the pitch, our opponents know that they are in for a brutal physical battle.
