Scott Mathie - A Man for all Seasons

The peoples choice

Tykes Independent Supporters have a long and great tradition of sponsoring one of the club's players each season. This is an opportunity for individual supporters to put their money where their mouth is and help the club in the quest for success. For the coming season we are pleased to announce that we will once again be sponsoring ...Scott Mathie.

Scott was born in the UK and brought up in South Africa where he played for the Natal Sharks. Despite his uncanny resemblance of Jim Morrison he snubbed the opportunity to be a rock star in favour of the chance to be a rugby legend.

In his first season at Headingley Carnegie he shared the number nine shirt with Joe Bedford. The contrast between their two styles of play could not have been more marked. Joe with his slow, thoughtful delivery against the scurrying, sniping incisiveness of "Sharkey", as he became affectionately to the supporters.

Last season the club brought in world cup winner Andy Gommarsall. Andy started the season as first choice nine. As the season wore one it was apparent that the apprentice was improving in leaps and bounds. By April Scott was first choice scrum half and capped a great season with the crucial winning try at Sale.

Next season we expect Scott to be the starting nine for the club with Warren Fury snapping at his heels and Dan White pushing for a place in the starting 23. Scott will be pivotal in the club's quest for a top six finish.

Sources close to the club say that Scott is honoured to be the supporters choice for sponsorship once again and hopes that his contribution to the team justifies the faith that we have invested in him.

Donations can be made by Paypal. A "Donate" button will appear shortly on the messageboard. All contributions, no matter how large, will be gratefully received and will, 100%, go to support the club's finances.

Thankyou.

Is there a minimum we must pledge before it is confirmed we haev sponsored Sharkey?

The last few times we were short of the target and Andy stummped up the short fall himself. How can we stop this happening again?

Bran - I will be collecting - any denomination is accepted.

Tukey - We have already committed. If there is any shortfall I will have to sell my wife and children to make it good. (Sm134)

..but am confident that enough people will chip in..(Sm124)

Last year we got the full amount - the Paypal button went a long way (IMO) to doing this; if you make it easy for people to give you money, they tend to find less of an excuse not to!

Waiting for the good times ...

..and waiting ....

I did - just the beard & long hair on one photograph put me in mind of Morrison on the LA Woman cover.

Being an old f@rt I'll send a cheque but you'll need to PM me an address.

Scott did well last year. Any chance of an interview just for us ?

Don't you mean you'll be skint by the end of next week!

On a serious note, Paypal is okay with me but could we have a running total or similar otherwise we might exceed (Cough!) the amount required to sponsor Sharkey.

Madtyke -This morning the running total is enough to sponsor 3 toes on Sharkey's left (or right) foot!

Hope he does - anyone can kindly donate to my family fund......Specsavers are my dad's cousins. I live in hope that they will remember the poor members of the family when they go to the big opticians in the sky!!!

Anyway - I'm about to Paypal to sponsor Sharkey.

If a scotsman living in yorkshire can find £20 to sponsor Scott then I am confident that many others will too.

If Scott scores tries/makes strong passes then you can claim that it is your sponsored finger that was responsible!
