Back's to the Wall

Intransigent selector?

"You get out of life what you put into it. If you are a pessimist you end up with nothing. We are optimists. We feel that there is never a cause that is lost. If anybody is in a position where they feel that a cause is lost then, pessimistically speaking, there is nothing for them"

Prophetic words from the great Bill Shankly but even he might have felt a bit glum after blast Sunday's crucial game.

Where do Leeds go from here? Eight games left still gives Mr. Back and the team time to get things right but it was the nature of last week's defeat that was so worrying. Leeds were out-thought from the first whistle by a Newcastle team that stuck to a simple game plan. For all Leeds huffing and puffing they were clueless in attack.

If they are to get anything from Sunday's game then they must at least get parity in the scrum. With Thompson and Fourie back from their cameo roles with England last week the scrum will take on adifferent appearance. I can see Browne moving to no 8 and Hoeneck getting the nod over the effective James Craig.

Will Back use both MacDonald and Gomez? I think not as he will use Mackay and new Sale signing Luther Burrell at centre to nullify the powerful London Irish backs. With Jjarvis at 10 this would leave Wackett and Fa'afili on the wings.

I hope Thomas is given a rest which would leave Stephenson at fullback.

Whatever the team selection I hope that we do not hear again our own supporters cheering substitutions. All the team need our approbation.

It would take a motivator with at least the powers of "Shanks" to shake our lot out of the torpor that is propelling them down to the Championship.

Nice one FT (Sm160)

Good preview Farmertyke. I think we need to put last weeks performance to bed and let's hope that the players perfor in the way that we all know that they can.

As for cheering substitutions, I'm all for that, for the right reason. Last Sunday it was for the wrong reason and personaly hope I never hear it again. The side needs supporting, not mocking. So let's get behind the team!

Come on yew Leeds!!!!

after Sundays depressing game I hope this weekend is not as bad, but I do remember the visit from the "not nots" last year and the points we leaked in that game...

Good summary. Last weeks disappointment still casts a long shadow for me though. Thank god Thommo is back to provide some leadership on the field. Agree there is hope however slim but only if changes made and lessons learnt in how we play. It's easy to single out individuals for mistakes but we need to revise the game plan to make a difference.

Having said that I do think CT needs a break this week

True about last year's jaunt to Reading, but then we had Blackett and Goodridge on the field, both of whom had grit and "go-forward" ability. Hopefully Wackett can prove that he has the same.

Suffering on the Leeds and Yorkshire roller-coaster since 2001
