Snow White and the Leeds Carnegie Dwarves
Happy!

In my fantasy land where supporting Leeds Carnegie is like a Disney fairy tale, I float through life like Snow White. Beautiful and graceful with a song in my heart and a good word for all. Occasionally though (or to be honest, most days) I think I’m probably more accurately represented by one or a mixture of the dwarves.
Usually I am Happy – I’m a glass half-fill sort of girl. Life is good, being a Leeds supporter is easy (bear with me on this one). Sometimes I can even see an upside to it when it gives me opportunities I wasn’t expecting – like last year when I copped for Marco exposing his six-pack in my Spin class. And when the little things go right, when the boys play with passion and a useless box-kick is a rarity I am Happy. After winning away from home (after this season, winning full-stop) I have a great big grin and have a sense of inner happiness.
Some days I am Grumpy – not very often; it takes a lot to get me mardy. But it happens and I was Grumpy after watching the shocking display at Headingley against Newcastle. Being frustrated by the quality of refereeing - I always said I would never slag off a ref - my dad was one (his proudest moment being refereeing ‘the’ Pontypool front row). But how I kept my mouth shut when I walked by David Rose post match for his ridiculous binning of Stephenson (and a few other inane decisions) during the match at Adams Park I will never know. And why, on the last day of the season, did Andrew Small show yellow to Wine Gums on the one occasion he honestly could say, “Not me Guv”? Silly reasons also make me Grumpy, like being irritated by a Leeds Rhino supporter (got all the replica gear, never been to a match in their life) who doesn’t even want to start to understand my passion when it comes to rugby union – because I am “a posh southerner”. Cue the Wicked Queen!
Sleepy raises his weary head when I spent hours sitting on a fun bus to some far-flung corner of the M1 to watch a horrendous performance by the team. Or I’ve thrown several barrels of beer down my gullet celebrating a win. Sleepy is very good friends with Dopey and when those two get together with Grumpy, they form an axis of evil that you know it’s going to be a bad day being a Leeds Carnegie supporter. Last seen plotting together at about 15:25 on 7 May 2011!
Dopey often appears at the first sign of something good – the best possible team selection, Leeds scoring first, Leeds being 3-24 up inside 20 minutes, anything that leads me into a false sense of security. That false sense of security when I think Leeds are going to win/turn the corner/play like a team possessed. But sometimes he’s there even when I’ve not got everything crossed. Like when he made me talk utter twaddle to Shrek after the win against London Irish – see Dopey linked up with his mate Sleepy there! Dopey is a very naughty, active dwarf.
Doc is around most of the time. Keeping me up to speed with the latest club, player and coach developments or gossip that I can’t possibly do without. The problem is, Doc is very impatient but needs to be careful of impersonators on this message-board – some are complete quacks.
Sneezy is probably the politest of all the dwarves in that he always lets me know a couple of days in advance that he’s coming. The little tickle at the back of the throat and nose are always a sign that Sneezy is heading into town – just in time for match day. Of course, Sneezy is permanently around at the end of the season when the pollen count is high and I need to snort substances up my nose to stop me feeling Grumpy.
And finally we come to Bashful, Bashful, as you would expect given his name, is pretty quiet. But he does make an appearance from time to time. He raises his head when a preview or review is on the cards and I think I am going to show my total ignorance of the game. I am delighted that Bashful no longer feels the need to hide at the back of the South Stand – thanks to Zand for sharing her prize so I met a lot of other Leeds Carnegie dwarves this year.
At the end of the day, I think I get along quite nicely with all my dwarves but I think I’d rather be Snow White. After all, following a time in limbo she was rescued by a rich prince and lived happily ever after. And that’s what my dwarves want for Leeds Carnegie.

I was born in Redland, don't you know! An extra couple of yards and it would have been Clifton.

How very apt, doesn't this apply to all the stalwarts of Leeds Carnegie TYKES ?
I am really looking forward to next season but haven't a clue why.
In the quiet season all good articles are very welcome!
