Our thoughts turn to.... Moseley

This weekend Moseley are the visitors to Headingley Carnegie Stadium in the next round of Championship fixtures. Once one of the most powerful clubs in the land Moseley are, like Leeds, finding the standard of rugby in this division to be a bit too tough to live with. However the winner of this game will move out of the bottom four.......
The Carnegie squad go into this game buoyed by a win on the road at Richmond last Saturday. The match also saw the return of American prop Mike MacDonald from World Cup duties in New Zealand. The team managed to score three tries against one by London Scottish. MacDonald will have a steadying effect on the scrummaging, which up until now has been flakey. The fact that we managed three tries is an indicator that the young players are starting to find their feet in a tough league. Another factor in the progress of the team is the form of Robbie Shaw. There was consternation when it appeared that we were starting the season with youngsters at 9 and 10 but Robbie is making the 9 shirt his own with solid performances.
You do not have to go back too far to find a Moseley win over Leeds. Those who made the trip down to Twickenham in 2009 saw Leeds comprehensively beaten in the EDF cup final by an enterprising and entertaining Moseley side who outplayed Leeds in every facet of the game. If the Leeds players think that they just need to turn up on Sunday to claim the win then they will get another shock at the hands of the West Midlanders.
On the other hand the progress that the Leeds squad are making makes me less anxious about the result at the weekend. The win on the road last weekend will have instilled some confidence in the younger players. There are injured players to come back into the side and lessons are being learned, both by players and coaches. The senior players, such as Michael Stephenson, are starting to lead by example. I think that we will see a second win on the bounce with an ensuing move a couple of places up the league table. Leeds to win by eight points.

Since then, they haven't shone, but we will need to continue the improvement seen last weekend to beat them.
(Maybe one or two of the kids from last night could be included? They certainly deserve to)!

I would expect Leeds to win but it will need physical effort up front. Mose are playing an expansive game this year and can score from deep, their problem has been winning sufficient ball.
This could be an open high scoring game - a 4 try bonus point could be on the cards for the first time.
