Leeds gets the Blues
By Mr Morose

Last weekend was sheer bliss! Leeds Carnegie did not have a fixture so there was no rugby to worry about. This weekend will be different as we are getting the Blues on Sunday, Bedford Blues that is, so it is back on the medication as we try to avoid various mental conditions that frequently afflict Lemonheads these days – anxiety & depression being but two of many ( I would settle for a bit more bliss). To make matters worse a thick fog appears to have descended on communications concerning the Leeds squad which makes it all a bit….
The only certainties this weekend are that we are playing Bedford and it is a 3pm Sunday kickoff at Headingley. Who is available, injured, out of favour or recalled from loan is all a bit hazy which makes second-guessing the selected XV even more difficult. As near as I can tell we only have 2 fit props in Denman and Mustapha (excluding those out of favour) but 3 fit hookers. Denton & Hohneck might be available (& therefore should be selected) With Walker away Rowan must start at 7 with Burrows at 6. A start for the Honeymonster (Rieder) at 8 perhaps?
Without Bell, Cliff and Davies the backs will look a bit threadbare. Perhaps a return for Barker & the out of favour boys – Wilson & Blackett. Joe looks like the last 10 standing so will get the shirt unless we sign another flyhalf in the next 48 hours.
Can we win on Sunday? Who knows? We have yet to achieve any sort of consistency. I naively thought that by the end of January we would have a fully fit squad of battle-hardened players, chomping at the bit & ready to rip into the play-offs. Fat chance. Still we are in the play-offs and we can still achieve something like a decent level of performance week in week out. Unlikely but possible.
So on Sunday I will take my medication & scurry down to LS6 for another trip on the 2011/12 rollercoaster that is our season. My prediction for the score? It will not be 0-0, you heard it here first.

But re no rugby - I was away for the weekend and climbing the walls as there was nothing to fret over.

As to who will start for us, Diccon only knows. I just hope in the intervening two weeks between matches, that the lads have honed their skills and, on Sunday will show us what they are capable of.
Till Sunday, I'm still growing my nails.
