The race is on now.

After a false start 2 weeks ago, Leedswill travel to Moseley on Friday evening knowing that a win will put them in the driving seat for the final play off spot in the Championship. It was on Grand National weekend two years ago that Leeds went to Newcastlehaving to win to keep their slim hopes of avoiding relegation alive, which they did, but to no avail. (I also suggested having a few bob each way on Ballabriggs in the race itself, and that proved profitable). This time the victory is needed to move Leedsback into 4th place, and if they can succeed, their fate is very much in their own hands.

Despite their lowly position, Moseley will be no pushover and Leeds, having already lost to the other three of the bottom four teams on their travels, will have to be fully focused on what lies ahead. Our hosts are safe from relegation, but even so, I’m sure they will want to add Leeds’ scalp to that ofBristol, who they turned over last month.

At least Leeds are on a winning run, having beaten Pirates, Scottish andRotherham in the last three games. The Roth performance was a stuttering affair, bouts of good rugby interspersed with dollops of mediocrity, but a win is a win, and I’ll settle for that this Friday evening.

I hope to see Leeds go out with all guns blazing, in the hope of scoring at least 4 tries, if they do that, and win, I’m not too bothered how many points they concede

Hopefully Dave Doherty will return from illness to the side, and I expect Sam Lockwood to return to the match day squad. The centres are still a concern for me, and if Doc. does return, I’d switch Matt Clarke inside to partner Josh Griffin. Beyond that, I can’t see many changes being made.

A Friday evening game isn’t proving to be popular, and it seems there are few ‘negies making the trip to cheer the lads on. Hopefully those that do will make themselves heard and witness a vital victory.

My opinion is that 8 more league points will probably be enough to reach the winning post, 7 possibly may be. If Bedford wins their re-arranged game, then they are guaranteed a top three finish alongside Falcons and Notts, (even though the Blues will not apply for promotion should they be successful in the play off fixtures) and if that is the case,  they and Notts may be tempted to rest one or two players before the play offs begin. Leeds to win by 10.

As for the National, a couple of bob each way on Teaforthree, or, Balthazar King, may prove rewarding.
