Bryan Redpath takes his new side down to Devon today. He will get his first taste of life in the slow lane. A number of questions will have been answered by 5 o'clock tonight. Hopefully Bryan will not be thinking that he has made a huge mistake but he has joined the rollercoaster at a critical time so what can we expect?
Plymouth at Brickfields can be a tricky fixture even for teams in good form. This season they are bottom of the Championship but within catching distance of teams like Moseley so they have every incentive to put in a performance and grab 4 or 5 points. If Albion get 5 points and Mose get nowt at Nottingham then they swap places at the foot of the table.
Brush will, by now, have realised the enormity of the task he has undertaken. His first teamsheet illustrates how threadbare the squad is. Only 1 lock in the 23 and 3 props although I seem to remember that Ben Harris started life there (well rugby life anyway). However the pack has plenty of beef and a good blend of yoof and experience. If the senior pros (Asbo, Tiddy and Jones) front up then we will be in with a shout. Jarad has seized his chance and is in line for PoTY in my book.
My hope is that BR has spent some of the past week with our halfbacks. If he has managed to instil some confidence into Pilgrim and Leonard then we will see a whole new side to their game and a return to the champagne stuff that we glimpsed last season. If.
I do not expect a miracle. If we reduce the mistakes and the penalty count against us then that will be progress. A win will be a bonus and a bonus point will be a bonus bonus. Let's do it!

If Redpath can't get that half back division working then I suggest nobody can: so no excuses for them. They have potential and perhaps our new man is the catalyst?

Summary just before Plymoyh penalty.
Carnegie lead 0-6 after 28 minutes at Plymouth but Yorkshire have dominated possession so far without scoring the points.

Sensational try for Yorkshire after a rampaging run from Beech matched by real strength from Leonard to cross for 3rd try. No extras, now 23 - 3 to Yorkshire

Only 6 points off fourth with superior BPs. Dare we dream? Not got easy matches though but it sounds (well read) as if we could've grasped defeat from the jaws of victory today but didn't and pushed to the end to get the BP.

Not doom, reality. We have to win at least 2 games more than Roth or Notts, and only 4 games left. In the event of level points, its down to games won, nothing to do with bonus points.

I just want us to finish the season well, then have a real go at it next year.
My heart wants the playoffs- of course it does- everyone strives to be the best they can be. But my head says we're not good enough as it stands now.

At the very least 2/4 tough playoff games would be a good pre pre season and help BR shape the squad for next season.

It's a cliché but we really need to take it one match at a time. Preferably one winning match at a time.
Interesting to see if Brush puts in some sort of squad rotation in place so that he can see various players in action or if he picks his "best" team for each match.
It would be nice to reach the play-offs, at it would demonstrate a huge turn-around for the season, but not sure that the play-offs are good for us per se.
We were lucky to draw against Plymouth at home, I believe they have strengthened with Exeter loan players in the meantime, so to get 5 points away is hell of an improvement!

Carnegiette is quite right to say we're not ready for the premier yet.
Have you considered this though -
If we were to scrape into the playoffs and then win them and go up, then there would be no relegation from the premiership next season.
So we'd essentially get a free season to acclimatise ourselves.

BR very upbeat after the match. Pilgrim/Leonard seemed to work today. If we win 3 out of 4 remaining we could end up 5th which would suit me.

It must also be said that Plymouth were very poor. Leeds were average, with the odd spots of good. The result was never really in doubt.
Shockingly bad from Plymouth to work so hard to get the bonus point, and then throw it away by running the ball from their own 22 and turning it over.
The lad playing 12 for Leeds (Fitzpatrick) looked good.

I think we've missed a bit of muscularity since Griffo went, but is FitzP really a 12? I would've thought Lucock (with his kicking option) was more suited to inside centre.
