Tigers fail to top premiership penalty givers

Contrary to popular belief Tigers players seem to be some of the least cynical in the premiership with no Tigers players named in the rogues' gallery of penalty conceders.

Player Club Pens Against Position
Craig Dowd Wasps 33 Prop
Patrice Collazo Gloucester 32 Prop
Ian Jones Wasps 31 Lock
Hugh Vyvyan Falcons 31 Lock
Andrew Blowers Saints 29 Flanker
Kevin Yates Sale 29 Prop
Craig Short Bristol 28 Flanker
Julian White Bristol 28 Prop
Budge Poutney Saints 27 Flanker
Dan Hyde Leeds 26 Flanker
Dan Lyle Bath 26 Back row

It comes as no surprise that all of the top penalty conceders are forwards, the worst culprits being flankers. However, how much can you read into these statistics?

Well you can read what you like into them, no doubt some will take the Rob Andrew stance that Tigers get away with more on the pitch than players of other clubs or indeed claim that Tigers share the crimes around better.

Many of the top rogues are well-capped internationals with the All Blacks Craig Dowd (59 caps) and Ian Jones (79 caps) being some of the worst offenders. Interestingly there are no regulars in the England team named although Julian White often features, perhaps his chances of securing his place would be increased if he conceded fewer penalties?
