Tigers v Quins AP Review

Welford Road on a cold, foggy Friday night - warmed somewhat by the thought of 80 minutes of great rugby, also by the warm and witty banter from the fine chaps and chapesses on the terrace (that do you Tiggs?!)
However, the first twenty minutes didn't look hopeful, as Quins took a lead of 6 points thanks to 2 successful Nick Evans penalties. Things were not looking good, Tigers giving away far too much ball and territory, struggling to make any inroads into the Quins half. Tigers were lucky not to be further behind, as Quins butchered a good try scoring opportunity - something that would be repeated throughout the game.
Manu Tuilagi, another player making his first
league start, set things going for the Tigers with a wonderful run that saw him
hauled down just short of the line. A penalty from the resulting scrum saw
Twelvetrees score Tigers first points of the game. Tigers 3 Quins 6. Manu made
his presence felt later in the game with a bone crunching tackle that nearly saw
Tom Williams become an integral part of the Welford Road turf!!
A second Twelvetrees penalty a few mins later saw
the scores leveled at 6-6. However the best was yet to come. A 53 metre
howitzer of a kick saw Tigers take the lead 9-6. Billy wasn't finished
though.
Tigers finished the first half strongly, making
good territorial gains, but were unable to cross the Quins try
line.
Into the second half, and Billy's good form with
the boot continued. Not content with his 53 metre first half kick, he then
slotted a 55 metre kick soon after the restart. Yet another successful kick
took the score to Tigers 15 Quins 6.
Tigers looked like taking control of the game,
however things took a bad turn when Parling came off the bench only to be
carried off a couple of minutes later with what looked like a serious injury.
Difficult to say who had the better of the
scrummage, as this area of the game wasn't really allowed to develop - the
seemingly random penalties and free kicks didn't help either. Tigers continued
to pile on the pressure however, and came close to scoring, only an unfortunate
forward pass stopping a superb move.
Yet another Twelvetrees penalty took the score to
15 - 6, and this looked to be the final score. However, Quins were determined
to have the last word, and with a couple of minutes to go, Tom Williams wriggled
over the line to end the game with a bonus point for quins - final score Tigers
18 Quins 13.
Not a classic, but at least Tigers are back in a
winning mode, now let's keep it up!!

He certainly watched a different game to Danny "Look at Me" Care.
