Message Boards: The Drug of the Nation
By The Disposable Heroes of Hypocrisy
November 13 2012
Without a story being uploaded for a while, here is an interpretation of "Television, the Drug of the Nation" by80s Hip-Hop group Disposabile Heroes of Hip-Hoprisy, updated for the 21st century and the cyber world in which we ilve.
One Nation under God
has turned into
One Nation under the influence
of one drug
Message boards, the drug of the Nation
Breeding ignorance and feeding consternation
MBs., their online links
our United Kingdom of unconsciousness
Hypocritical cantankerous and extremely addictive
the methadone metronome pumping out
Thousands of viewpoints 24 hours a day
you can trawl through all of them
and still there's nothing worth reading
MBs are the reason why there is a rapidly evolving
Culture of parochialism in rugby
Why most people think disagreement
means trolling
Differences of opinion mean lazy journalism
and fawning to your own team is a necessary requirement
absorbed in its world it's so hard to find us
It shapes our minds the most
maybe the mother of our Nation
should remind us
that we're sitting to close to. . .
Message boards, the drug of the Nation
Breeding ignorance and feeding consternation
MBs:
the stomping ground for self-promoting egotists
Where those from elsewhere
are chased by Grecian Formula'd
thought police
MBs are digital sports clubs’
remote control over the masses
co-sponsored by unwanted grammar and spelling classes
watch for the Web TV special
It's the perpetuation of old school system
where prejudices takes precedence over wisdom
Where sound bite clichés are regurgitated to
the real ale culture
Where big words from your keyboard
are more important than the words
that come out of your mouth
Team baiting is the way to get noticed
Will they win or
Will they just get deleted from . . .
Message boards, the drug of the Nation
Breeding ignorance and feeding consternation
MBs: are they the reflector or the director?
Does it imitate us or do we imitate it
Because we can read 1500 posts a day
and we wonder how we've created
an intolerant generation that learns to join in
rather than abhor the bullying
MBs. as the place where
armchair coaches and selectors can
experience first hand
the excitement of telling us all
Why they are right and we are wrong
Bitter rants
that leave us with a bad aftertaste while
moderators metamorphosize into dictators
You clicked to sign up
You read the regulations
Well now go say what I tell you
Well, the only MOD that I’d support
Would be a Ministry of Defence “keep out” sign
On Message Boards
Message boards, the drug of the Nation
Breeding ignorance and feeding consternation
Back again, "New and Improved",
we return to our irregularly programmed schedule
hidden cleverly between insults
and pompous ridicule
ERE COYSDC SN TSDC but mostly B.S.
Where tired overused phrases like
"lazy journalism" "disgrace"
"vicious troll" and "go back to your own board"
have become standard
MBs are the place where phrases are redefined
like "insult" to "banter"
"starting an argument" on a board to "fishing"
and anyone cracking a joke
is now called a "wind-up merchant"
MBs are the place where the pursuit
of happiness has become the pursuit of superiority
Where pompous language and spelling corrections have become weapons
Where friendliness and cameraderie are sucked out by a TFT nipple
MBs would be the only wet nurse
that would create a cripple

Very thought-provoking (and well written)...
