Shanklin's try not enough to save Wales

Saracens centre Tom Shanklin scored one of three Wales tries but it was enough to stop his country losing to Italy for the first time at Stadio Flaminio on Saturday. The Azzuri beat the Welshmen 30-22 to record only their second win since they joined the Six Nations champinoship in 2000.

As well as Shanklin's contribution, another Zurich Premiership player - Northampton lock Steve Williams - also scored a try but their efforts were in vain as Italy took a well-deserved victory over a disappointing Wales side.

The omens don't look good for Shanklin and his team mates as red-hot Grand Slam favourites England are next up at the Millennium Stadium on 15 February and current form points towards a big win for the visitors as they continue their search for their first unbeaten season since 1995.
