By The Saracens
August 30 2023

Just in time for the new season, lets look at the results of our End of Season Poll from 2022-23. This year we used the “Poll Option” on SportNetwork and although there are some limitations, it led to much greater engagement so I think it’s a way forward for the future.

The eds will try and use this option throughout the season eg Player of the Match so please watch out! Any suggestions for future polls gratefully received.

The results are those which were showing when each poll closed. Any later votes aren’t included.

Good stuff DG.

I can't wait for the new season to begin (on that theme maybe a "which player are you most looking forward to seeing this season" poll?) and feel incredibly positive about it. Ofc hard to know in what state, mental and physical, our Internationals will return but am I being too optimistic looking at our depth and thinking that strong results in not only the Premiership but also the ERCC might not be beyond Sarries this season?

Re the polls. The Theo Dan rise is fascinating to me. I had to admit that as impressed by him as I've been I kind of felt that it all happened very quickly and was a bit of a contrast to some other young players who put in season long performances. A quick look at the stats kind of disproves that with Dan first making an appearance in round 5, recording 7 Premiership starts and 9 Premiership (2 ERCC) appearances from the bench, including the Final where he played 70 minutes plus on early for Jamie George.
That probably talks to one of two things. How seamlessly the coaching group integrate new players and how poor my attention to detail is! Regardless, good luck to him he's had quite a year.

We are blessed with a core of excellent preview and review writers but these polls are excellent fillers and often spark interesting debates. Would it be useful for people to make suggestions for polls they'd like so they can be "landbanked" and used them when needed?

Theo Dan would probably have risen more gradually and sooner, but he had a rotten time with injuries over the last couple of years. Kudos to the medical team and the coaches for keeping faith (as they always seem to do!) and reaping the rewards

Glad 'Saracens based Podcast of the Year' was avoided this time round, didn't want the embarrassment of winning/losing a one horse race! (Sm126)

Hope so. The Jez rants would be an hour long on England.

They probably realised you’d rig the poll with alt accounts voting for Elliot Daly OM! 😄

If I told you Jez wanted to start the series about 3 weeks ago you probably have your answers!

Probably a lengthy show first up this coming Wednesday... complete with special guest Maggie Alphonsi (readers of this thread getting an early exclusive leak)

Maybe when the RWC is all over, a poll along the lines of 'Best Showing by a Sarries player'
