QUINS v SARRIES: please post match-related comments here

Thank goodness! This Saturday sees the end of our reluctant journey through the Premiership Cup with a visit to The Stoop. Sarries don’t appear to have been wholly committed to this competition for many years (in fairness this year, they would have struggled even if they had wanted to due to the huge number of injuries and International call-ups), using it as a learning curve for their younger players. Incidentally on another matter, why do we play U-20’s internationals during the time those players could actually be getting first team experience against Premiership opposition? Surely those U-20 games should be played during the regular season when the youngsters don’t get a look in? (Rant over).

Our performance (and I’m not expecting much of a one) will be there for all to see on TNT (well if you can afford the subscription that is). I’ve pretty much lost track of the comings and goings over the last few weeks. Not sure Carwyn Tuipolotu even got himself a peg in the changing room before he was off! Basically this game is a dead rubber for us. Quins will finish top and although mathematically we could still pip Trailfinders for 2^nd, they are playing London Scottish and we’re playing Quins so what do you think? At least it means the rest of the squad will get a well-deserved break in the sun for a couple of weeks.

Apparently we have used 46 players over the course of the 5 rounds so far. Of those players who may have some interest in the game, I assume Goodey will continue his rehab and will probably play a bit longer than he did last week. Theo McFarland should also get a bit of game-time if his recovery is on schedule. Louie Johnon and Charlie Bracken could also do with more outings together. We will probably have to field the likes of Mawi and Cleary due to lack of cover. Tizard has had a bit of a workout recently (probably welcome after his enforced lay off) again due to lack of anyone else and it has been good experience for Michelow, obviously being groomed as future captaincy material. Jackson and Elliott on the wings have looked promising and I like Hartley at 12 (who is also rehabbing I assume).

No idea what sort of team Quins will put out – probably strongish as they are going through to the next round and would presumably like a home tie. Apparently Alex Dombrandt is likely to feature at Borthers’ request. I assume the presence of the TV cameras means we will have a TMO (the absence of the TV Official has been one of the few positives so far in this competition).

Anything short of an injury-free hammering will be a result for us but don’t hold your breath.
