Shanklin joins new Cardiff provincial team

Saracens and Wales centre Tom Shanklin has joined the new Cardiff provincial team which will compete in next year's Celtic League and Heinken Cup.

Shanklin, who holds 12 international caps, will join Dai Young's side and will link up with Wales team mates Iestyn Harris, Martyn Williams and Rhys Williams.

Saracens' other young international centre, Ben Johnston, is still at the centre of uncertainty surrounding his future at Vicarage Road.

The England man has apparently not been offered a new contract by Sarries and there have been rumours of a move to Leeds or Harlequins in the press in the past few days.

Sarries recently sigend Leicester and Australia centre Rod Kafer and extended the contract of Kevin Sorrell, Johnston's midfield partner in the last two Zurich Premiership games.
