Fisher turns down Saracens coaching job

ACT Brumbies assistant and Australia under 21s head coach Laurie Fisher has turned down the chance to coach Saracens next season destpite being seen by many as the red-hot favourite to replace Wayne Shelford who was sacked by Sarries last month.

Speaking to Australian News agency AAP, Fisher cited "unfinished business" as the main reason not to join his former ACT colleagues Rod Kafer (backs coach) and Mark Sinderberry (Chief Executive)

The business in question is Fisher's desire to take on the head coaching job when the incumbent David Nucifora steps aside.


"I was born here, I've done all of my coaching here and I'm working to one day be the first home-grown head coach of the Brumbies." said Fisher

"That's my ambition and I think that staying here gives me the best chance of achieving that".

Nucifora was also happy that Fisher is staying with the Brumbies:

"I know 'Sinders' (Sinderberry) was working very hard to convince Laurie to move to London and I'm delighted he's resisted the temptation."

With pre-season training due to start on 14 July, Sinderbery will be under renewed pressure to get a new coach in place before the new campaign kicks off in late August with a possible home match against French side Agen.

There are several other candidates being looked at right now according ot the club and they say a final decision on who will be appointed is expected shortly.
