March Report - Last Friday

Bath completed the pre season friendlies with a comfortable win over Cardiff. Late in the match, Jack Cuthbert scored a try in the corner, following a great burst of speed from Eastmond, to complete the final score of 26 -8

I’ve pulled together a couple of posts from Friday to create a match report as we were in danger of losing the message board through lack of new content.  Hope Fairshout and Widcombe Boy don’t mind!

“I thought the pack looked strong.  New boys Dominic Day and Paul James both continue to impress and Fearns is a tank and plays like a tank, excellent

Banners is a new player, a new man and if he continues with this start to the season, we will be losing him to England before long. Mearsy is an other player completely rejuvinated and playing top class rugby

Yes Biggs was his normal excellent...Bendy too but an other highlight to the pre season friendlies has been the form of Dan Hipkiss, now forming a dynamic partnership with Banners. Hipkiss just picked up from the great form he showed in Swansea and looks to be top class

Of course it has only been three PSF matches...but we have played well and started a winning habit

I share the concern over the kicking game. If we kicked as poorly in Prem games as we did tonight at times then we will be punished. Boy the boys chased hard on our own kicks, with greater accurate kicking, the impact would have been even more immense.

I appear to be a lone voice...but Banners/Hipkiss looked good last Saturday and good tonight

I smiled every time there was a scrum....oh so different than last year”

“Forwards looked totally dominant. Scrums very strong until late changes. Lineout superb. Wilson looks very fit and powerful. Dominic Day looks to be a great signing. We now have real depth at 2nd row. Will Spencer looked very god for United too. Atwood when he came played like a man possessed. Back row all over the place.

This Bath pack will cause problems for a lot of teams.

Lots of kicking mainly from inside our own half in the main very good but the huge difference is the chase and subsequent pressure at the next breakdown.

Eastmond looks real class and ghosted past three players before just missing a pass. He later had a great run down the wing committing two defenders before passing superbly to the supporting Cuthbert for a try. He'd going to terrorise defences this season.

All in all very pleased...this was no disjointed friendly it was a full on game!”
