The last time English teams were not in the HC cup

On the Bris board someone asked what the Premiership sides did the last time we were not in the HC back in 98/99. Turns out he couldn't remember as Bris weren't a Premiership side that year. Plus ca change, eh?

We in fact played friendlies against Swansea, Cardiff, and some div 1 side down the road.

I had to check in an old programme to be sure, and was struck by another bit of déjà vu - the editorial about the recent presentation of development plans! Shops, restaurants and collapsible stands to minimise height impact. Wouldn't be ready before 2004....

I was also taken by the strength of the team we put out then for a friendly:

Balshaw

Tindall

Maggs

Guscott

Adedayo Adebayo

Catt

Cooper

Hilton

Long

Ubogo

Borthwick

Redman

Earnshaw

Peters

Lyle

Subs: Hatley, Regan, Yates, Callard, Adetokunbo Adebayo, Webster, Sturnham

[sits back in warm glow of nostalgia]

Is our team getting back to that kind of level?

It may just be me, but I think the HC has run its course.

Just you I think.... Look if Bath keep going on this upward curve I would love to see them in Dublin stuffing Leinster in the final.....

Please tell me that you wouldn't love to be there too.

That team sheet brings back a few fond memories - like the slight hollow, frequently water logged, at the sports center end of the ground that Victor U always seemed to dive into when he scored a try!

I'd forgotten that we gave a trial to AA younger brother. Anyone remember what happen to him?

I recall vaguely that AA went to Italy to finish his playing career.

Toki went on to be a contestant on an Ant & Dec Saturday night tv show called Friends Like These.

Why that nugget of information has lodged itself in my brain is beyond me.

Were the Adebayos the last brothers to play for Bath?

Boorad there will be some form of Euro Cup so could still see them stuffing Leinster in Dublin, just for a different pot.
