THE ONLY WAY IS UP. WORCESTER WARRIORS v BATH
Bailey: favour
By PG Tips
May 31 2022
“The only way is up” should be the motto for Bath at Worcester Warriors on Saturday. The winner of this basement battle can regain a sliver of pride by clawing their way off the bottom. Indeed, the victor could scramble as high as eleventh should Newcastle, as expected, lose at Northampton. A paltry reward maybe, but at least that might end a dismal season with a smile. So, can the squad put aside the distraction of last week’s shock announcement and end the campaign on a high?
Warriors will have something to say about that, of course. In their last outing they shocked London Irish in the Final of the Premiership Cup, winning on tries. They were first on the scoresheet, grabbed a late try to snatch the halftime lead and finally another with the clock in the red to bring home their first ever trophy. Bath must beware their “never say die” attitude, which ambushed the visitors in the 17th minute of injury time in 2019.
Diamond’s geezers have an experienced pack, particularly in their abrasive back row. Since his arrival he has sharpened their discipline and game management, without inhibiting their flyers Humphreys, van Der Merwe and Shillcock. It is early days yet, but Diamond seems to be developing a balanced blend of pragmatic forward play with incisive attack out wide.
Both teams will have been without a game for two weeks (18 days in Worcester’s case) so have had ample time for recovery and preparation. Several long-term injury absentees could be in contention for selection. With victory in mind Neal Hatley may prefer to stick with the players that squeezed the home win against London Irish, but Lewis Boyce, Max Ojomoh, Ruaridh McConnochie and Anthony Watson could all be fit to feature, if press reports are accurate. The win is paramount, but it would be good for Watson to get at least a few minutes for a last hurrah. 7 Bath players have a chance to further their claims for England’s summer tour to Australia and bank some credit for next year’s World Cup. Orlando Bailey seems to have edged ahead of England U20 rival Fin Smith in Eddie Jones’s favour: theirs could be an intriguing battle. It will be up to the forwards though to set the tone and build the platform for victory: big shifts and leadership will be expected from Stuart, Ewels, Underhill and Faletau.
It will not be long before a new coaching and support team will take charge of a refreshed squad, with eyes firmly on the future and an upward surge in Bath’s fortunes. It could be a hard and challenging climb, but first comes Saturday. That is base camp. From there Bath must perk up, look up and begin the ascent.
Possible Teams:
Bath:, Obano, Dunn, Stuart, Ewels (Capt.), Williams, Reid, Underhill, Faletau. B Spencer, Bailey. Muir, Clark, Joseph, Cokanasiga, De Glanville.
Replacements: Du Toit, Boyce, Rae, Richards, Coetzee. Simpson, Cipriani, Watson.
Worcester Warriors: Sutherland, Annett, Judge, Batley, G Kitchener, Hatherell, Kvesic, Hill. Simpson, Smith. van der Merwe, Beck, Venter, Humphreys, Shillcock.
Replacements: Miller, Waller, McCallum, A Kitchener, Lewis. Chudley, Searle, Lawrence.

Great review, as always. "Diamond's geezers"

Much as I always want Bath to win, there is something in me that thinks a) we deserve to be bottom for all the rubbish we've played most of the season and b) it might not be a bad thing to stick the league table up in the dressing room and training ground as a constant reminder of what we must never be again
Great review, as always. "Diamond's geezers"
Whatever your motivation Gaz if we win on Saturday we don’t deserve to be bottom. The table doesn’t lie. And if a view of last years table as a motivational tool is ever used a reason to lose a game I despair.
I think it’s thank you Mr 59 you just failed your management interview.

I think that Gaz may have had his tongue firmly in his cheek.
Notwithstanding that, the bottom 3 are a country mile from the rest, to see Bath on 33 and Wasps in 9th on 60 points is pretty crazy. It's certainly been an 'orrible annus.

If I'm honest I find it desperate that the club are writing to individual supporters to garner support. I'm finding myself supporting the players yet utterly disillusioned by the top tier. I'm finding it difficult to separate and compartmentalise my anger.
How some players respond will be telling.

I doubt Worcester will worry about positions 11,12 or 13. They at least have some silverware!

+1
The way the club is being run and the total lack of ambition makes me care very little if we finish bottom or not.
There have been only 4 clubs ever present since leagues began in 1988- Bath, Gloucester, Leicester and Wasps.
We all know Leicester were saved two seasons ago by Saracens punishment relegation.
Wasps escaped in 2012 because Sam Vesty showboated on his way to a try allowing Varndell to catch him and secure Wasps a vital bonus point for survival.
We do not want Gloucester to be able to say in future that it was only Covid ringfencing that kept us u, leaving them the only club not "saved by the bell.".

Love the passion BSJ but how how many times have we seen the team go out in the first half play like demons only to concede points through inept defending and getting beaten on the fringes.
It's not the players, it's not the effort nor the application its the fundamental humungous holes in coaching and direction in areas like at the line out and in defence that repeatedly cost us and has led to some embarrassing defeats this season.
That why I'm disappointed in the shuffling of the individuals involved sideways in moves to retain position and the complete lack of "courage of his own convictions" by the owner. (Assuming the Telegraph article is true).
Whatever the 'new structure' brings I will never understand why the significant investment in time by BC, TM and EG followed by the procurement and appointment of new coaches and added to that the specific player recruitment should be abandoned at the 11th hour when so many of the existing and new players had bought into that package for the next season.
That decision on the face of it seems both illogical and a personal reaction rather than a business decision to me.
Clearly this still hurts for me and I hope you go to the game BSJ and that we win convincingly but one last win will not erase what has been the most dreadful of seasons from my memory.

Its really not as bad as 2003 which was very scary........right up to the last 15 minutes.
I think the players are fed up with it as well...........surely they can stop large bulky hookers running through our line at will. As happened against Newcastle at home.
Let's get 21 - 0 up and then aim to play the game in their half............how difficult is that?

Probably says that because he does make things happen in the short term. Give him a one year/18 month timeframe to get improvement and yep he's the man. If you want someone to build a bigger project, leave legacy beyond 3 to 5 years and No, No, No to the Diamond Geezer

Agreed, i'll bet that Bath wouldn't be where we are in the table if Diamond had been the boss for a couple of years. He is good at building solid mid table teams, historically with very limited budget.

Solid mid table is the aspiration for Bath though, so maybe we should have gone for Diamond a few years back.

Beno Obano will start his first game in just over seven months when Bath Rugby take on Worcester Warriors in the final game of the Gallagher Premiership season.
The England international returned to action last time out in the win over London Irish following an ACL injury and makes his seventh appearance of the campaign.
Obano alongside hooker Tom Dunn and tighthead Will Stuart were a key, powerful trio during the club’s run to the play-offs in the 2019/20 season, and they will be backed up by Breakthrough Player of the Year Ewan Richards and captain Charlie Ewels.
Taulupe Faletau will make it 72 and out at Sixways from Number 8 with Jaco Coetzee and Sam Underhill completing the back row.
Having played 16 times in the Premiership this term, Max Ojomoh is back in the centre while fellow Academy graduate Orlando Bailey, who has featured 18 times in the league, remains at fly-half.
The young duo have experience and leaders around them in Ben Spencer and Jonathan Joseph while there is an abundance of tries in the back three.
Joe Cokanasiga has five tries in seven Premiership matches while on the other wing, Will Muir (eight tries) will be looking to cement his position as the club’s top try scorer this season. Tom de Glanville (also five tries) is set for Premiership appearance number 20 in 2020/21.
Among the replacements, front-row three Jacques du Toit, Valeriy Morozov and Ma’afu Fia will bid farewell to Bath while Max Green is back from his short-term loan spell at Bristol Bears.
Bath Rugby team to play Worcester Warriors
15 Tom de Glanville, 14 Joe Cokanasiga, 13 Jonathan Joseph, 12 Max Ojomoh, 11 Will Muir, 10 Orlando Bailey, 9 Ben Spencer; 1 Beno Obano, 2 Tom Dunn, 3 Will Stuart, 4 Ewan Richards, 5 Charlie Ewels ©, 6 Jaco Coetzee, 7 Sam Underhill, 8 Taulupe Faletau
Replacements
16 Jacques du Toit, 17 Valeriy Morozov, 18 Ma’afu Fia, 19 Mike Williams, 20 Miles Reid, 21 Max Green, 22 Danny Cipriani, 23 Gabriel Hamer-Webb

Jaco Coetzee: my adopted Player, 2023-24.
Roko got his send off at the Rec a couple of weeks ago, but would have been good to see him get a go too.
PG
Problem is this is the ‘ season of the phantom coaches’ !
Who would have thought that we would see Bailey and Ojomoh as established backs with OB touring with England this summer.
I expect a win but how many times have we sent out strong sides to see them crumble like an England batting collapse!
What’s the expression… live in hope but .,.,,?

Shame no space for Watson (or maybe he is not quite ready?).

Probably not a great idea to play on a plastic pitch as your first game back. So not risked sensible choice IMHO.
De Glanville
Cokanasiga
Joseph
Redpath
McConnochie
Bailey
Spencer
Coetzee
Underhill
Cloete
Attwood
Ewels
Stuart
Dunn
Obano
Annett, Boyce, Rae, McNally, Bayliss, Schreuder, Ojomoh, Muir.
Still with the likes of Schoeman, Will Spencer, Williams, Richards, Reid, Francis and Gallagher waiting to step up.
With better luck with injuries a good coaching set up and some stability that is definitely a top half of the table team, at worst.
It's time to look forward and draw a line under this season.
Key for me is who is captain, I think JvG will come out with some surprises!
I also reckon JPF’s opinion will affect selection quite a bit.
That might hurt Joe C.

Coetzee

Ewels
Stuart
Dunn
Obano
Annett, Boyce, Rae, McNally, Bayliss, Schreuder, Ojomoh, Muir.

Agree entirely with all of that malco
Dunn, Annett
McNally, Attwood
Underhill, Cloete
Spencer, Schreuder
TdG, Gallagher
With the risk of both Redpath and Ojomoh being away for internationals we have added Francis.
So whilst none of the signings bring much excitement they should in theory provide much greater stability throughout the season. They are all experienced player over 30 who know what they are doing when the pressure comes on.
What is Bath are trying to achieve at Blindside Flanker? Reid and Bayliss have almost 50/50 splits at 6 and 7. Making them effective 6.5s depending on who else is fit and available. Ellis and Staddon are the only out and out 6s in the squad. Big men who are line out options. Williams would fit mould as well but due to the lack of resources he is required in the second row. Richards has stated a preference to play in the backrow because he doesn't have the heft could be the best of the lot. Simply not enough spots to squeeze Reid and Bayliss into the 23.
Given that we have committed to playing a lighter No.8, something I have no problem with if he still gets over the gainline. Having a large 6 would be my preference as it does have its uses when it comes to set piece, in particular when it comes to mauls, attack and defence.
You mention ‘heft’ as a criteria, I think there is another aspect to this and that is speed.
In Baylis and Richards we have two of the fastest forwards in the Premiership.
That is a point of difference that I would expect a coach like JvG to exploit.
Isn’t Richards a 6?

Richards I think will continue to flirt between 4 and 6 for Bath and will settle on a position when he settles on a weight.

Turnover ball and the Cloete/Underhill pairing could mirror the Kamikaze twins quite nicely. Is that the plan or is Cloete the back up 7 for when Underhill is on England duty as I predict. Time will tell! I do however like it when teams can seamlessly transfer from one player to another without any change in style.
Richards I think will continue to flirt between 4 and 6 for Bath and will settle on a position when he settles on a weight.
Cloete and Underhill have different skill sets. Underhill is primarily a tackler, Cloete is primarily a jackler. Bath have been missing a specialist jackler since Louw retired. I'm convinced the plan is to play them together. Underhill to make the tackle and Cloete to be first man in to make the turnover.
Sam has done well at 8 when asked this season and has become a v effective carrier.
Richards provides some bulk and a lineout option.
Cloete an absolute menace at the breakdown which I agree is a skill we have really lacked since flo.
Think 8 position is wide open- plenty of options but arguably no out and out specialist in the senior squad (coetzee, white, bayliss all played a lot elsewhere)
I don't see the point of playing our best 7 at 8 to accommodate a promising young 5.5.
Coetzee is a monster carrier. He is what we need at 8. He will give us the go forward from the base that we only saw this season when Hughes played.

I'm not so sure about that, I agree that that is how Underhill operated with Tipuric, Cracknel and Lydiate at Ospreys but Cloete's biggest skill is the speed with which he gets over the ball having made his own tackles.
I'm also not sure we will see typical 6, 7 and 8 roles on the pitch all the time.

No reason you have to pack down in same positions on own feed vs opposition feed I guess.
I do feel like we need to start having some correlation between performance and selection. Richards has done enough to at least be in the 23 most weeks. Personally feel he could be an absolute top drawer 6.
Sure you are right on coetzee (and hope you are)- as I say 8 is wide open for someone to claim the shirt. My only point of reference is him playing on hard tracks a few seasons ago.
I think cloete is a shrewd move- we offer v little threat at the breakdown. Must play a part in out horrendous defensive record.

I think that is the key CB, defence, JP Ferreira will be key and JvG will focus on that first and foremost and select accordingly. Conceding 720 points amounts to conceding over 100 tries.

Seriously though, that is a good team on paper and I agree they have lacked direction. Personally I think they have lacked leadership on the pitch, both things can be corrected next season.
The big win from this season is at look at that team and see richards, bailey and mojo as strengths.

I'm really tired of Charlie Ewels.
I can't believe he's done it again. After the first pen at 2 mins I'd have hoped he'd have reined it in a bit.
How many matches has be done this to us? You would have thought after the red on the biggest stage he'd have reflected on why he keeps giving penalties away, but sadly not.
I can't see him keeping the captain's shirt, let alone starting next season at the moment. What he offers simply isn't enough to counter the constant penalties.
Quote:liquidmonkey
How many games has Ewels cost us ?
Whilst he should never be in the starting lineup, one player does not cost a team the game.

Not bothering to watch, but I disagree. It’s a team game and not won or lost by a single player.

Comes back on, can't hold onto the ball. Like I don't really want to pick on one guy, but it's exhausting watching him.
I suppose we are somewhat beholden to him owing to the seeming dearth of second-row recruitment this season. We can only hope that Atwood's return means Ewels is not automatic first choice.

Every other team in the league has shown us how to play, Bath are comfortably the worst team in the league. Not surprising though, when a low bar for success is set, poor performance and failure is inevitable.
JvG and Maddog have their work cut out.
Professional rugby club, don't make me laugh, more professional clubs in league one.
Been a Bath fan all my life but this season hurt like nothing I've experienced as a fan before. Big changes needed, people should be made an example of and sacked. It's Pro sport not a charity, if you are not up to the job then go.
He is a non-star probably not massively paid very effective elusive rugby player.
We don't need star signings we just need a bunch of players like him and the number 6 with the red scrum cap.
Very effective dynamic players

Disagreeing without seeing it? Yeah that is how to make informed opinions. Had you bothered to watch you would see prior to Ewels being sent off for a reckless tackle (again) Bath would have scored and Worcester probably wouldn’t have had the come back they did. This was the point I thought here we go again. Then again I didn’t have the benefit of your insight, having actually watched the game.

The fitness aspect is simply embarrassing, plenty of time to rest and get fit yet we get stuffed basically, how hard is it to coach fitness?
I'm still concerned even about next season, despite everything we are still a coach short in my view and I'm interested to see someone convince me that the same forwards coach in charge of a relegation season will suddenly turn this all around next.

Our players just wanted the season to end in about October.
Find it amazing how certain people are quick to pick on one player who is a proven talent and has led his team through the worst season in history but not one mention for the coaching, DoR and management of the club.
Utter nonsense IMHO that Ewels carries the brutal assassination which truly lies at the management of the club - he like all the other players are frustrated beyond belief and at his wits end not knowing what the hell is going on at their club - but it is amazing how quickly people are to single out a scapegoat.
Bath are absolutely shocking - their defence is non existent and yes Ewels has been on the wrong end of some decisions this season but he has been there week in week out trying his heart out like others to turn this ship around yet he cops a bucket load of abuse and nothing mentioned about the lack of a defence coach or the total shambles in the club management.
Have a think please - we are all fed up, annoyed, frustrated and heartbroken with what has happened this season but to try and blame one player is pitiful to say the least.
I'm not heartbroken - I reserve that emotion for far more important things but I am very angry, frustrated and now feel that retaining Hatley and Hooper will hold us back next season
The frustration with Ewels is that yellow card is so avoidable and such a repeat offence that it seems like he's incapable of learning. As I said, it's exhausting. Hatley and Charteris will still be here next season and it's very difficult to understand why.
However the reason we lost is the same as all season no structure to any part of our game and performance levels failing off in the last 30 mins. Whether it is fitness or the effort being put in by the players to stay in the game without a structure I don't know.
The players must take some responsibility for this season and the pack of structure with which we play as the coaches3must be trying to put something in place.
Confidence is completely shot will be interesting to see what new coaching team can do.

You are missing the point I am making. Rugby is a team game and cannot be won or lost by a single player, whether I watched the game or not wouldn’t change my opinion.
As for Ewels, is he a liability?most definitely yes. Would I have him in the match day squad? definitely not.
So I guess we do have a similar opinion on Ewels.

As for Europe I’d like to see it far more exclusive with sides as bad as Bath being excluded.
Won’t happen, but top 4in champions cup, next 6 in challenge cup, the rest get nothing. Team finishing bottom no TV revenue.
As for Bath we have a different and hopefully more competent coaching setup for next season, however with those most responsible still around JvG has been given a hospital pass. Maybe we will scrape 8th place, but not that confident.

My word, has he even been watching Bath this season? Astonishing comment. It would have been a travesty if Worcester had finished bottom given how we have been miles behind every other club this season.
Remember this feeling.
Never again.

Honest assessment, the table never lies and Bath are the worst team in the league. Do disagree with his statement that we’re so much better having sat through the dross at home games this season. We really aren’t better than that.

Shilly is a home-grown academy product. Was a 10 all through his early career until he got a bit stuck behind the Hougaard/Weir combo and shifted to 15.
Kyle Hatherell we picked up from Jersey in 2021. He’s an EQP Saffer, and has been a bit of a secret weapon.

Worcester fan here. Couldn't understand the way Cokanasiga was used today : was barely put in space 1 on 1 vs our winger or used off first phase to run over our fly half/centres, who aren't the biggest. All the best for next season.
Encouraging that other teams fans can see the blindingly obvious as well that seems to escape our coaches.
A really good example of a player absolutely not being used in sensible ways.
Congrats today, would have been a travesty if we had finished above you after you nearly beat us with 14 for the whole game at the rec as well.

To put it another way, if you were a regular theatre goer, paying 50/60 quid per sub standard performance how long before you cut your losses?
Not interested in what the players have to say, their attitude is poor and many of them are not fit to wear the shirt. Overpaid and over hyped. The coaching staff are not good enough or have lost control.
But the Tigs have shown it can be done. Lets hope Johann van Graan is our Steve Borthwick.

What good would that do. Are the club going to try something different because there are not enough ST holders. If you don't want to support the team - don't - find another one.
Only one stat but sums up our lack of fitness, discipline, want/desire. Pathetic, even more so when compared to the majority of other sides in the Prem who are producing some scintillating rugby.
Embarrassed today. We’re lucky we’re not down this morning and likely heading for some sort of administration. Roll on July 1st and the freshest of starts.

Next season reasons to be optimistic:
New coaching team
Returning from injury
Young stars
Salary cap reduction
No relegation again next year whilst we continue to rebuild. Perhaps for some it is too soon to move on from this game/season, but what else can possibly be said that helps now. Let’s start looking forward to next season with some hope of improvements. It can be done but the club needs fans to help.
Quote:First of all if you're going to get indignant about someone suggesting you find another club perhaps respect that those with the view 'Through thick and thin' might be equally indignant that they're seen as part of the problem. So we played Worcester yesterday, a club with a clear and defined plan in place and a club which has done all the business it feels is required and we were royally beaten - simple.
The players preparing for that match - they have endured a season where they literally have been pulled from pillar to post - then Ed G comes in and clearly is very vocal about the changes he sees are imperative to implement for next season and sells the players a welcome vision given what they have experienced over the past 12 months or more - speaking with a language of positivity - something these players have not heard of for a long time.
Then and it appears that some only knew when we all knew that ED G had gone and Taqruin & Hooper had effectively won the power battle.
So these players have gone from being sold an exciting new dawn to a realisation that they were about to re-enter hell with the same regime responsible for creating that hell still very much in positions of power. Yes JVG is coming in with his team but if they ousted a Chairman ousting a Director of Rugby/Head Coach is no problem - so for a few seconds put yourself in their position and then ask - is it any wonder we lost on Saturday.
As for Charlie Ewels - this is a driven, committed and passionate young man at the peak of his profession - captaining a club he genuinely cares about - yes he is going to strive and attempt to lead by example - the problem is as the situation got worse the need to strive to excel got greater and he has crossed the line recently and he and his side have paid a heavy price - but you have to understand just how frustrated, angry and disappointed he and the rest of the players really are.
The first thing JVG will need to do is try and build up that confidence that has taken battering after battering and focus the players minds on rugby not the club which appears to want to self destruct and is unable to focus on a new beginning with certain individuals obsessed with their own empires - yes use some of the experiences of this year and swing them round to a positive and motivational direction.

Just because I buy a season ticket doesn't make me a muppet. I'm perfectly capable of seeing that we're poor. Most of the time the teams I support lose. Tell the vast majority of sports fans that they're muppets because they support losing sides (The vast majority regardless of the sport because there's usually only one winner). I understand why lots of posters on here don't watch Bath live anymore and respect their stance, but to criticise those that do... Strange!
I renewed so I guess I must be a muppet!
However I do wish the club would move on those accountable for the demise, rather than play musical chairs.
JvG will have to be the messiah to get us away from the bottom of the table.
Ewells has let his team down again. Being yellow carded or worse red is like playing for the opposition you have deprived your team of a component of the team.
I will not accept the apologists who say he is trying hard and trying harder and therefore it is OK.
If this was the Extra B 4th team I would be no less forgiving. A million years ago I was captain of a Club and an international rower, think fit as a butchers dog and stronger than a very strong man, asked me if you could play rugby, because he was bored of rowing. We put him in the 4th team. After 3 games a deputation came to see me and said great bloke, incredibly fit and strong, BUT, in his excitement and desperation to do well he kept conceding penalties and he was killing them. We did a load of coaching and training and he concluded that he would have to resign as he knew the negative impact he was having. Because he is such a great bloke he ran the touch and was water boy for the rest of the season.
Maybe that's a new role for Ewells

I resent being referred to as a muppet for supporting my team. Yes, this season has been disastrous, yes I am angry, perplexed, bewildered at the state of the club but it is my team and I support them through thick & thin & even thinner.
As supporters we can only guess at what goes on in the offices at Farleigh; we all have an opinion gleaned from social media but very few, if any posters on COML actually know the truth. That something is very wrong in our club is obvious but what exactly it is and what is required to put it right , I do not know.
At least next season we start with a full set of experienced coaches and a new structure in the management of the rugby playing side of the club. I am looking forward to a fresh start and hoping that JvG will bring some new focus to the players.
I seem to remember that ever since I met you, way back in the day, you have never had a good word to say for the club. Why you ever had a ST is beyond me.

I don’t think it’s a sense of ‘entitlement’, but there is a sense of expectation when you look at our teamsheet, and you consider that Worcester, too, are at the foot of the table, and an overwhelming sense of frustration that our teamsheet is never matched by performance.
In many ways there’s a sense of envy that Worcester are so much better coached and get so much more from a much less (theoretically) star-studded line up.
If the league were ‘indexed’ on some sort of (theoretical) quality of player vs performance algorithm we would be bottom by a hundred miles, and Worcester would be miles ahead of Bath..

This is the fundamental reason why Bath will not become a title challenging side. The 2 most responsible for Bath’s demise are still at the club and refuse to accept any responsibility.
Any incoming DOR/HC will be prevented from doing what is necessary by those that hold the real power.
What odds JvG doesn’t last beyond next season?
Bath have never really been a big side in the professional era. Saying lose to Worcester is shameful is somewhat arrogant.
And yes, to be clear, it is specifically because it's Worcester and we allowed them to score 9.5% of their total season points in 4.1% of their games. Which is well well outside standard deviation and is, in fact, shameful.

We don’t have the best ground or the biggest attendance but we don’t look down on others.
We have been there with both for many years. We were last well coached in the days of Brain and Keast, we are desperately hoping that Dimes can bring this. The early signs are good, but it is too early to say.
I think that you guys have plenty to be optimistic about as pointed out earlier in the thread. You have a new and proven DOR coming in (may not be the title but that is what he is). Off-field I have no idea about with you guys, but from our experience it is so important to get right.
Every season a surprise team struggles, and this season it was you. I am confident that you will be back challenging next year.
Every season we are one of the familiar faces at the foot of the table and I hope we can put that right. I think that we finally have the right DOR.
Incidentally, you have a fab signing in Niall. Always gives 100%, great darts, regularly plays 80 mins for us and has a track record of getting selected ahead of more feted teammates.
I would be interested in your thoughts on Valeiry?
Thought Muir was fantastic for you guys yesterday, and you were killing us in the scrum - that is the first thing we need to fix for next year. See you then.
Quote:A poster, not unreasonably said it was shameful you scored so many points against us. It was a bottom of the table clash many of us thought we'd lose but it was the size of the defeat that was commented upon. Against Sarries or Tigers we'd have seen conceding only 40+ points a success. As to your ground, it's clearly a modern, very well-designed stadium unlike ours so I don't know why you're doing all that Uriah Heep stuff about how you're humble and we're snobbish. You got some stick back because you had a dig at our ground. Pass it off as snobbery if you like but go on another club's site and be provocative you can expect a few replies.neiljk
The snobbery and entitlement is insane. You must have cramp in your eyeballs looking down your noses.
We don’t have the best ground or the biggest attendance but we don’t look down on others.
Offa, cheers for the encouraging post, albeit few on here share your optimism!
But anyway have a lovely summer, better luck next term.
Quote:Thanks for another very unprovocative post. It's not luck that we've been lacking. Most Bath fans know how bad we are, we don't have any delusions of grandeur. Everyone knows why our ground hasn't been developed. Even if it doesn't happen I, like many, can put up with that for the location. As I said, no snobbery in the posts you got, just fans who are understandably unlikely to be too tolerant of someone having a dig, even if you don't think saying our ground is a 'wreck' is provocative. Anyway, have a lovely summer yourself.neiljk
I don’t think it was me being provocative. The comments are specific about it being shameful to concede so many points to Worcester. I didn’t say we were humble, I did say some of you lot are snobs, which to me seems the case. You then get all sniffy because I said the Rec is a wreck….which is true.
But anyway have a lovely summer, better luck next term.
Quote:This is a Bath forum, if we want to emphasise a point on our own pages at how disappointed we are then I suggest you leave us to it. No need to stir up an argument or use insults based on false assumptions.neiljk

I Still have reservations that TM & SH are still around, seems in the press, the pundits and some supporters Ed G leaving is a blessing and we've dodge a bullet. Time will tell on that one!
As for being a muppet, if I am to be labelled one of those, I'd like to be Fozzie Bear please. As this muppet has renewed and will continue to support the club he has since he was 6 years old and as long as I have air in my lungs and can afford to watch Bath Rugby I will do so. It's about the game and the match but also about those fellow "muppets" I sit with and the banter and the laughs we have.
"It's all right, Andy! It's just bolognaise!"
Some of my best rugby days have been at bath & night after.
Finishing last must be hard to take, but believe it could be the best thing for bath.
Imagine if you had finished 12th or 11th or maybe even 9th…. Bath are better than that, but would the change happen if you hadn’t finished last.
Something isn’t right, is it the player, coaching or injuries? No doubt a mix of all, but finishing last will make the change happen.

At half time I thought, finally a bit of fight and the players showing pride they didn't want to finish bottom. Full time told the story of the season. The season now over they only way is up. Looking back about how cr@p this season has been will only make my blood boil. Next season is a clean slate and a fresh start. It's time to get behind JvG, JP, Maddog, Hats and next seasons squad

Maybe all of us "Muppets" on the forum should change append our username with our chosen Muppet as well!!

I’m afraid I don’t agree that “the only way is up”. It is true that getting any worse would be hard but we are capable of standing still & tetaining SH on board makes that more likely in my view. Hooper will be remote from first team rugby & TM has always been divorced from it but for me Hatley’s continuing presence is an issue.
It is shameful to concede so many points from the comfortable position we were in at half time. We lost the second half 33 - 8 which is shameful give we seemed to be in a comfortable position.
It is shameful against any team, including Worcester.
On the subject of the table, congrats to Tigers for topping the table and in my eyes winning the title (I am not alone in not liking the play offs I think).
Is that correct?
If so, it does suggest where JvG needs to start
I am not getting into the silly argy bargy about grounds. I would be happy if I lived in Bath to go to the Rec but am equally pleased to be able to drive 5 miles to a pre-paid parking space behind the West stand and drive back home after the game.
We both look forward to next season, as Offa has said you have a well respected hooker in Niall Annett who will always recieve a good reception at Sixways. Also console yourself that you have six players in the England training squad, Falcons have five , Wuss have one, and that only just - the table dosn't lie
Only you know why they aren't further up the table but at least your lot won something!

I’ve been to The Rec many times, have always enjoyed the visit, and always tried, by getting in early, to stand in the corner with the weir directly behind. Got wet a few times, didn’t mind, had the right clothes. Huge benefit of having the city a few yards away, great for eating and drinking, and for B&B weekends, less good for getting back to Lansdown park & ride.
Different jobbie at Wuss, modern stadium with covered seating and on-site parking. Outside the City, (not even actually within City boundary, it’s in Wychavon District).
Chalk and cheese, completely fatuous to try scoring stadium points.
All unimportant, what matters to you and us is that our respective managements get us out of the shite we’re both in, and for that we’ll just have to wait and see.

I like Cookie Monster, but as I no longer have a ST i don't qualify as a muppet and it would be unprofessional to take him in those circumstances.
Point of order, Mr Chairman! Surely the Cookie Monster was Sesame Street?

IMHO the game hinged on the Ewels yellow card , it gave Wuss relief from not conceeding another try and then the wherewithall to make Bath pay which they did in some measure. The sum of the parts has often been quoted in Worcester case and it is certainly true for the current Bath team.

Hmm maybe you're right, but did he ever appear on the muppets and even if he didn't is he technically a muppet?

I think you're right that he's technically a muppet but he definitely wasn't a Muppet. I think the mods are going to have to rule on this crucial distinction.
OMG, apologies, I'm wrong. Ernie, Bert, Cookie Monster, The Count, Grover, and two Anything Muppets appear in Episode 518 of The Muppet Show. And Kermit appears frequently in SS.
Your choice is sound, Woody.

Indeed and if he's going to break the rules at least woodpecker should keep his avian theme by being Big Bird
Next season already has a very obvious bottom club for me with rumours that Falcons have had £1M shaved off their already under-cap budget. I think that's a cut too far and can see them having a pretty grim time.
