Cup Time Again

Our cup used to runneth over in this competition when it was John Player and then Pilkington. The hot May days at Twickers with cars and buses travelling up the M4 and always returning with scarves dangling from car windows and the inevitable Bath broad grin on each supporter's face, ah happy days.

Wouldn't it be nice to once more beat the well-trodden path up the motorway for another day at HQ on 10th April?

Yet another campaign begins and we entertain the multicoloured ones from SW London. Quins have had a very disappointing season to say the least in the Premiership and their results in the Heineken are also non-existent having lost 3 and drawn 1. They received a drubbing from a Welsh team the Ospreys playing at home last weekend and no doubt they will want to prove something against us at the Rec on Saturday. Their message board is full of recriminations and calling for heads, but this is a side that has some talent and as my old Housemaster used to say, can do better.

Will there be a backlash? Well they will try of that there is no doubt, but my waters tell me that Bath will win this one by a margin of 7 or 8 points. Yes we do have injury problems but we welcome back Zak, Borthers and DG, and of course Humph. So we will have nearly our best front 8 and Barnsey has been filling the boots of David Flatman very ably indeed. Maybe we will see something of Heinrich Kok to bolster the front row. I think that our forwards will be too strong for Quins even if Tony Diprose returns from injury.

History always has a say in the way things happen in life and in the last 7 visits to the Rec Quins have only won once and that by 17-13 in May 1999.

Let us hope for a good game and a win for Bath as an early Christmas present. Allez Bath!
