According to verstappen.nl, Jos Verstappen's official fan web site, Jos Verstappen has not been officially told by the team that he has been released from his contract. In addition Verstappen's manager, Huub Rothengatter, has commented that he is "absolutely flabbergasted" with todays news.

Jos Verstappen's initial first reaction to the official announcement from the team was understandably very short, "I haven't heard anything from the team yet, Huub Rothengatter told me about the 'news' on the Arrows site. I am very disappointed. No more comments from me right now I have to let it sink in for a while."

Huub Rothengatter has always maintained that his charge had a secure contract with the team and that despite all the rumours the popular Dutchman would be driving for the OrangeArrows team in 2002. His initial reaction was one of a man completely stuinned by todays news.

"Despite all rumours of the last few weeks I am absolutely flabbergasted," he said to Verstappen.nl. "Officially we have not had any notification and I am unpleasantly surprised with the press statement on the Arrows site. I have been in Formula 1 for over 20 years but I have not experienced anything like this. It means we will be extremely busy the next coming weeks."

It is expected the Jos Verstappen will find a home at the fledgling Toyota team as a test driver. Recently Mika Salo invited Jos to join the team, and since then there have been strong indications from various sources that this may end being the case.
