Team Summary:
After completing a large number of laps in the opening Friday practice the
Williams team would commence the second. The Williams drivers would both
start the session on the ultrasoft tyre. They were the only drivers to use
this tyre with the others using a mix of soft and medium tyres. Quickest was
Perez with a 1m:35.696 followed by Alonso and Ocon. But Bottas would move to
the top of the times with a 1m:34.387 followed by Verstappen and Perez.
Hamilton was now quickest with a 1m:34.179. Bottas was second followed by
Vettel, Raikkonen, Verstappen, and Ricciardo sixth.
After their first runs on the ultrasoft tyres the Williams pair would find
themselves in thirteenth and twentieth. Raikkonen would go fastest with a
1m:34.063 running on the soft tyre. More drivers were using the ultrasoft
tyre including Hamilton who would set a 1m:33.482. Raikkonen was now second
followed by Hulkenberg who was on the ultrasoft tyre. After the ultrasoft
tyre runs Hamilton was fastest from Bottas, Vettel, Verstappen, Raikkonen,
Hulkenberg, Magnussen, Sainz, Ricciardo, and Alonso tenth. But Raikkonen
would move into second. After their quick laps drivers would start to
complete longer runs on the ultrasoft tyre. But there would be a mix of
tyres been used as the teams assessed their tyre options for the race.
With ten minutes remaining rain would start to fall at the circuit seeing
the track empty quickly. The Williams drivers would be amongst the last to
pit remaining in sixteenth and twentieth positions. Sergey would remain
quicker than Lance but Lance's quicker run was spoilt by his spin. A few
drivers would return to the track running on the intermediate tyre with
three minutes remaining. With the end of the session Hamilton was fastest
from Raikkonen, Bottas, Vettel, Verstappen, Hulkenberg, Magnussen, Sainz,
Ricciardo and Alonso in tenth.
Lance Stroll:
Lance would follow his team-mate out also using the ultrasoft tyre. Lance's
first time was a 1m:46.493 as he prepared for his flying lap. lance's next
lap was a 1m:37.253 to be slowest of those who had set times. He was 0.889
behind his team-mate. Fifteen minutes of the session completed and Lance was
now eighteenth. He would drop to nineteenth and slowest. The gap to his
team-mate was now 0.783 as he pitted. Lance would also come out on a new set
of ultrasoft tyres. But Lance would have a spin at Turn eight ruining his
lap. He would say that he lost the rear. Lance would be forced to pit
without improving. Lance was now 1.8 seconds behind his team-mate. With
under thirty minutes remaining Lance was still in his pit. But he would
finally return running on used ultrasoft tyres. After a fourteen lap run
Lance would also pit having completed fifteen laps.
Sergey
Sirotkin:
Sergey would be the first to come out in the session using the ultrasoft
tyre for the first time. Sergey would set a 1m:36.364 to move into second,
dropping to fourth. He would drop to seventh as others went quicker. He
would drop further to be thirteenth. He would pit after seven laps. With an
hour remaining Sergey was back out on a new set of ultrasoft tyres. He was
on a personal best lap and would set a 1m:35.340 to now be tenth. Sergey
would come on the radio and say that his right mirror had fallen off. Sergey
would drop to fourteenth and would pit after a five lap run. In the pits he
would drop to sixteenth. Sergey would return on used ultrasoft tyres with
forty minutes remaining. Fifteen minutes remaining and Sergey was still on
his long run using the ultrasoft tyres. With the rain starting to fall
Sergey would pit having completed fifteen laps on the ultrasoft tyre. |
