Azerbaijan GP: Turn around for Williams Martini in FP1

Team Summary:
Both Williams drivers would complete their installation laps with ten minutes of the session completed. The first time would be set by Bottas with a 1m:49.762 using the supersoft tyre. But Hamilton would go quicker with a 1m:47.653 also using the super soft tyre while Bottas had improved. The Williams team was working on a range of bodywork and aerodynamic tests as Hamilton set a 1m:46.465 to improve his time. Bottas was second followed by Verstappen and Perez. On the soft tyre Verstappen would go quickest with a 1m:46.399 followed by Hamilton, Bottas, Ricciardo, Grosjean, Ocon, Lance and Perez eighth.

Ricciardo would move up to second but this would become third as Hamilton again went quickest with a 1m:45.629 but just as quickly Verstappen would move ahead with a 1m:45.559. Now it was Ricciardo's turn to go quickest setting a 1m:45.369. But with an accident from Verstappen the Virtual Safety Car would be deployed. Verstappen spun going into the tyre barrier and was now able to continue. The session would restart but everyone had pitted. For Williams their first runs would see them sixth and 15th. The only car on the track with forty five minutes remaining was Vandoorne. He would be joined by Alonso and Raikkonen. Raikkonen would move up to 5th running on the ultrasoft tyres.

Also on the ultrasoft tyre it would be Bottas who would go quickest with a 1m:44.242. After their second runs the Williams drivers were currently eighth and ninth. A turnaround from other Friday practice sessions. Vettel would move in between the Williams drivers to be ninth. With five minutes remaining both Williams drivers were on longer runs on the supersoft tyre. With the end of the session the Williams drivers would finish in 8th and 11th with Sergey ahead of team-mate Lance. At the top of the times Bottas remained quickest but he was followed by Ricciardo, Perez, Hamilton, Ocon, Verstappen, Alonso, Sergey, Gasly and Vettel tenth.

Lance Stroll:
Lance would join his team-mate out on the track but was on the supersoft tyre. He would complete a single lap prior to pitting. After a short stop Lance would return running on supersoft tyre and on his first lap he would set a 1m:55.256 on a slow lap. His next lap would see a 1m:49.276 but was over two seconds slower than the quickest times. Lance would improve with a 1m:48.928 but remained fifth. A further improvement with a 1m:48.638 but would drop to eighth. On used supersoft tyres Lance was able to set a 1m:47.506 to move up to 5th prior to pitting. He would stop briefly coming back out currently sixth. But Lance would again pit returning to his garage. Lance would drop to ninth as he also returned to the track on a new set of supersoft tyres. Lance had dropped to be 11th as others went quicker. Lance would also improve setting a 1m:46.590 to be ninth right behind his team-mate. He would drop to tenth prior to returning to the track. With the end of the session he would be eleventh.

Sergey Sirotkin:
Sergey would be first out for Williams carrying out his installation laps. He would be using the soft tyre for his run. It was now time for Sergey to come out with twenty minutes completed. He was also on the supersoft tyre for his first run. He would set a slow 1m:57.072 as he dialled himself into the circuit. His next lap would see him set a 1m:50.747 to be twelfth. He would improve with a 1m:49.510 but would drop to 13th. This would become 15th as Sergey continued to lap the circuit. Sergey would also pit having completed eight laps, currently fifteenth. With forty minutes remaining Sergey would return on a new set of supersoft tyres. He was now 18th but was able to set a 1m:46.885 to be sixth. He would pit after a seven lap run currently eighth. With close to twenty minutes remaining Sergey would return on used supersoft tyres but would pit again briefly. Sergey would go down the escape road after a moment with the rear of his car. He would continue pitting after having completed a total of seventeen laps.
