Updates a step in right direction for Williams

Despite introducing several updates at the recent British Grand Prix the Williams Martini saw these updates fail to deliver what they had hoped for. Now two weeks later the team has continued with their updates and has brought a new front wing with the aim of trying to achieve some stability with their troublesome FW41.

After running the wing in both Friday sessions both team drivers were pleased with the results. Even though the second session saw both Lance Stroll and Sergey Sirotkin finish well down the times both drivers came away with the view that the new front wing in combination with the other updates has made the car more stable. Overall it was a positive result as the team continues to work on the performance of the FW41.

Speaking of the updates Sergey said that the new front wing is a "step in the right direction."

Sirotkin added: "There are some interesting things to look at. We never said this is something which gives us a lap time on its own, but we do see some good improvements.

"It definitely gave us a more stable base, and a more stable airflow.

"That is what we can already see, even having not passed through the process of adaptation yet.

"From now on it is more about turning this more stable base into the performance which, obviously not having this base [before], we could not do in the past.

"It is a step in a right direction, but obviously there is a lot more to come on top of it."

Williams technical chief Paddy Lowe said the team was encouraged by the results and the data that the team can now evaluate.

Lowe said: "We had a perfectly executed programme to learn what we needed to learn, and gathered a lot of data."

"You saw we had a lot of rakes. I think we managed to cover the entire car in flo-vis at the end.

"So yeah, a lot of analyse, but the feedback so far is pretty good, so an encouraging start."
