ROKiT Williams releases FW42 images
By Andrew Hooper
February 16 2019
The ROKiT Williams Racing team would finally release computer generated images of their 2019 challenger the FW42. With the team not been able to complete their shakedown run dues to build issues the first time that the car will be seen will be at the opening day of testing at the Circuit de Catalunya. At this time the drivers suits will also be on display for the first time.

I have to say in the natural light shots I really like what they've done with the livery.

I don't care what colour it is as long as it's not a dog of a car compared to last season

Yeah Mike totally agree with you and what I was trying to point out the other day when everyone was hating on it.
The more I see our new livery in normal light, the more I like it. All these comments about they ran out of paint, a 5 year old could have designed it etc and along those lines are imo totally wrong.
I for one are glad we didn't revert to dark blue and white.

Just wait 2 days and see people change their minds about our new livery
The same people that were saying this livery is a poor job, that the gradients sucks, that we used paint that they saw people using in the 90's... It will look awesome in daylight.Re: ROKiT Williams releases FW42 images

Still hideous, only plenty of pace will redeem it.

Sure. Ferrari's is MUCH MUCH better. A 95% of the car covered in ugly matte shade of red and people are loving that ****. But our design "still blows" hahaha

It's not what it's gonna look like...
It is against current regulations at least in one very visible aspect.
Did you realised which one?

Yes 88, I'm positive that it will look different. Reanult' render wasnt representative either.
But I cant seem to be able to find the difference You are talking about. Perhaps a little help?

The obvious one with 2019 regulations is that the extended mirrors have to be mounted to the bodywork in two separate positions...
Many teams will use (and already do...) that for directing the air split around the pods - no sign of it on these renderings

Also speaking of livery I just can't believe that endplates of both wigs will be plain... Come on - show us the money!

This is the first I have heard of this requirement. I knew they had to be mounted higher and wider, but not that they required two mounting points.
Is there anywhere to confirm this?

Although at first i thought, boy it is ugly, i am getting used the new colour scheme. The crucial point is where we are in terms of pace. To hell with the colour scheme.

Interestingly, in his analysis of the Haas, Scarbs instead indicates that "the FIA have allowed teams to have two mirror mountings." (just after the 2:30 mark):

Perhaps he is just speaking without perfect precision. Are the regulations themselves published anywhere so amateurs like me can have a look at them?

14.3.6 There must be no more than two mountings connecting the mirror housing to the bodywork.
a. A maximum of one mounting may connect the mirror housing to the survival cell. Such a mirror mounting must:
- Lie between two vertical lateral planes, 15mm behind and 50mm forward of the inner edge of the mirror’s reflective surface
- Lie between two horizontal planes, one 550mm above the reference plane, and one passing through the lower edge of the mirror’s reflective surface
- Lie inboard of a vertical longitudinal plane passing though the innermost point of the mirror’s reflective surface
- Form no more than a single section when intersected by any longitudinal vertical or horizontal plane
b. Any other mirror mounting must lie in its entirety between two vertical longitudinal planes which pass through the innermost and outermost point of the mirror housing, and when viewed from above must not protrude more forward than the mirror housing or more than 50mm rearward than the diagonal line defined in Article 3.5.5 (d). Furthermore, any intersection of each such mirror mounting with a vertical lateral plane must:
- Form a single section
- Be no more than 50mm high or 10mm wide
- Lie between 550mm above the reference plane and 40mm below the centre point of the mirror’s reflective surface.

If i read this correctly, one mount is legal.

Interesting, thanks.
Yes - reading from that article, it would also be my conclusion - one mount is legal.
Hower would it practically usable?
I imagine that (considering the length of the mount) it could get bit shaky?
Funnily enough I asked Scrabs on Twitter about two mounts - he replied:
They will soon appear I'm sure

That's how I read it as well.
It's interesting to me that Williams might opt for only one--yet another indicator that they have aimed at a very simple and clean approach to the car--at least at the start--waiting perhaps to add whatever bits and bobbles that may improve performance more gradually as the season goes along.
If that is in fact their strategy, though robbing us of any hope of some really spectacular breakthrough (some 2019 version of the double-diffuser that allowed Brawn to win a team and driver titles in 2009), it may not be a bad way to begin a recovery from a really poor car. Get the car basically settled and then develop it more deliberately from there.

Not sure starting with a 'simple' car is a good thing, suggests to me they did not really understand what was wrong with last years car. Although I can see the benefits of getting some baseline data from which to build.
Still, these are only drawings of the car, looking forward to seeing it in testing (despite the livery being the ugly duckling of the grid)
