The opening race of the 2019
Formula One season would see the ROKiT Williams Racing Team suffer what was
a difficult race weekend with both team drivers Robert Kubica and George
Russell been last in both qualifying and the race.
Combined with the lack of pace with the new FW42 has been another issues,
the lack of spare parts, which has also impacted both drivers ability to use
the track having to avoid things like kerbs to avoid damaging parts of which
they have limited stocks.
In recent interviews at the Sakhir circuit for the 2019 Bahrain Grand Prix
both drivers discussed the various issues that are facing the team as well
as their views on how to move forward.
Robert spoke of the situation: “It is not an easy situation also from a
drivers’ point of view because we will be limited with spare parts and
everything.”
“It is putting the driver in a difficult position.”
“Tomorrow the situation is like it is. You cannot go over the kerbs, or you
go over the kerbs but the risk is that the car will fall apart and then you
have no parts to fit them.”
Even with the difficulties the Williams Team is still pushing ahead with the
process of building up their spares as well as a repairing parts damaged in
Australia.
“But on the other hand I think in a perfect world you would have fresher
parts starting a weekend and having some spare parts in a good state,” he
added.
For team mate George Russell also commented on the situation in regard to
the performance of the FW42.
George said: “Our overall package is probably better than what we are
showing at the moment, not better that we will be moving forward but better
that we will probably be a couple of tenths ahead.”
“So even if we just made the most of what we have got than we will go
forwards. There is certainly light at the end of the tunnel.
“But that tunnel is quite far away and we’ve got to just not do anything
drastic because at the end of the day, even if you are one of the top three
teams you can’t just overcome that lap time in a day, a week, or a month.
“It’s a process and the team made it clear from the end of last year that
this is a longer term project for them and they are not looking to short
term.” |
