Team Summary:
Magnussen out on the medium tyre would set the first quickest time in the
second Friday practice session with a 1m:20.168. A 1m:19.481 from Magnussen
but Vettel would move ahead with a 1m:18.989 to go quickest. But Magnussen
would move ahead with a 1m:18.873. Vettel would also improve with a
1m:18.766 also on the medium tyre. Magnussen was still second followed now
by Gasly, Leclerc, Kvyat, Ricciardo, Raikkonen, Grosjean, Albon and
Hulkenberg tenth. Stroll's car was still been worked on by his mechanics
after his FP1 accident.
Bottas was now fastest with a 1m:18.259 running on the medium tyre. There
weer a large number of drivers running on the hard tyre while Bottas would
improve with a 1m:17.835. Verstappen was now in third as more drivers
started to come out for runs on the soft tyre. On the soft tyre Vettel would
set a 1m:17.673 to be quickest from team-mate Leclerc who was also on the
soft tyre. Bottas was third followed by Grosjean, Magnussen, Verstappen,
Hamilton, Hulkenberg, Gasly and Norris tenth. Gasly would improve on the
soft tyre to be sixth. At the front Leclerc had gone quickest with a
1m:17.585. But on the soft tyre Bottas was now quickest with a 1m:17.284
followed by Hamilton and Leclerc. The Williams drivers were 19th and 20th
after their soft tyres runs and George was 0.743 behind the next car that
had set a soft tyre run that of Perez.
So for Williams the small updates that the team has brought have not found
the team any real time but any real upgrades may not come until the next
test which comes up in the next few days. It was announced that Robert would
have an issue with his power unit which would see him stuck in his garage.
With the last twenty minutes drivers would start longer runs collecting data
for the race. More drivers were switching to either the medium or hard tyre
with twelve minutes remaining. With the end of the session Bottas would
remain quickest from Hamilton, Leclerc, Vettel, Verstappen, Grosjean, Gasly,
Magnussen, Sainz and Kvyat in tenth. The Williams drivers would finish in
19th and 20th which was nothing out of the ordinary. Their fastest laps were
for George 0.7s off the next best soft tyre runner while Robert was 1.3s
behind. It was encouraging in FP1 but their pace in FP2 was less so.
Robert Kubica:
Robert would come out for his first run in the second session but was now on
the soft tyre. But Robert would spin at the pit entrance going somewhat too
aggressive on the throttle. But he was able to continue. Robert would say
that "I spin. I have cold tyres so I spin" as he set his first timed lap
with a slow 1m:40.091. Robert would continue to lap setting a 1m:34.106 but
his next lap would be a 1m:21.774 leaving him still last. A 1m:21.342 from
Robert as he continued to lap on the soft tyres. Robert would pit after an
eight lap run. After a short break he would return again on the soft tyre.
Robert would improve with a 1m:20.781 to be 19th. He would pit after a six
lap run. But the team would have an issue with his power unit which would
see his mechanics working on his car. With six minutes remaining Robert was
able to get back out returning on the soft tyres. He would pit with the end
of the session having completed seven laps.
George Russell:
George would come out for his first run in the second Friday practice again
on the medium tyre. He would set a 1m:21.881 which was about 1s off his
earlier FP1 time. His next lap was a 1m:21.109 seeing him improve. George
would continue to lap the circuit but would pit after a three lap run. With
twenty five minutes completed George would return this time on the soft
tyre. George would set a 1m:20.488 to be 13th but was on the soft tyre while
those around him were either on the medium or hard tyre. He would drop to
16th and would pit after a five lap run. In the pit he would drop to 17th.
George would go back out again on the soft tyre and would set a 1m:20.191
pitting after a three lap run. With jsut over thirty minutes remaining
George would come back out but would pit after a single lap. He would return
to start a longer run and would pit after an eight lap run on the soft tyre.
He would return but this time on the medium tyre and would complete thirteen
laps with the end of the session. |
