French GP: Another difficult FP2 for ROKiT Williams

Team Summary:
With the start of the second Friday practice session it would be Kvyat who would set the first time a 1m:35.683. Raikkonen would go quickest with a 1m:34.486 now followed by an improved Kvyat and Ricciardo. Both Williams drivers would set their first times with Robert ahead of George. At the front Leclerc would go quickest with a 1m:33.152 now followed by Norris and Ricciardo. But Vettel would go quicker with a 1m:32.763 to now be ahead of Leclerc. Again it would change with Bottas now quickest with a 1m:32.478 followed by Vettel and Norris. Leclerc was fourth followed by Hamilton, Albon, Giovinazzi, Raikkonen, Gasly and Ricciardo. Bottas would lower the quickest time with a 1m:31.669 with Verstappen now second ahead of Leclerc and Vettel. All had set their times on the medium tyre.

After their first runs the Williams drivers were again at the bottom of the times with only Grosjean slower, but Grosjean had some issues. Bottas had now set a 1m:31.110 with Hamilton now second with thirty minutes completed. Grosjean would move ahead of the Williams drivers now making them slowest. Bottas would improve with a 1m:30.937 followed by Hamilton, Leclerc and Vettel. With twenty minutes remaining teams started to work on longer runs evaluating the harder tyres including both Williams drivers. The majority of drivers were on the medium tyres with five minutes remaining. The session would end with Bottas remaining quickest from Hamilton, Leclerc, Vettel, Norris, Verstappen, Sainz, Gasly, Raikkonen and Magnussen tenth. Again the Williams drivers would be slowest but this time it would be George ahead of team-mate Robert. Another difficult session which will no doubt generate further comment as to why George Russell is well ahead of Robert Kubica.

Robert Kubica:
Robert would also take to the track for his first run in the second session also running on new soft tyres. Robert would also complete a slow lap and then would set a 1m:37.612 to be eighth. A 1m:36.562 from Robert to be just 0.054 behind George. Robert would find time to move ahead of George with a 1m:36.471 seeing him just 0.037 ahead. Robert would pit after a seven lap run. With fifty minutes remaining Robert would return again on new soft tyres. He would again complete a slow first lap and would set a 1m:35.540 close the gap to his team-mate. A 1m:35.195 from Robert would see him again close the gap to his team-mate. Robert would pit after a four lap run. With thirty five minutes remaining Robert would return on a new set of soft tyres but he would stop after just two laps. He would return on a set of hard tyres and would complete a thirteen lap run. He would pit completing a practice pit stop.

George Russell:
George would return for the second Friday practice session been the first Williams driver running in the session. George was on a set of new soft tyres and would after a slow first lap would set a 1m:38.888 to currently be sixth. No doubt this will change quickly as George would set a 1m:36.508 to move ahead of Robert by a small margin. But George would set a 1m:35.419 to remain ahead of Robert but by a bigger margin. George had completed a nine lap run prior to pitting. He would complete a practice pit stop. George had commented on some drivers calling them "stupid" for cruising on the outside of one of the corners. George would also return also on new soft tyres. He would set a 1m:34.614 to be 0.5 ahead of Robert. George would pit after a six lap run. After a short stop he would return with just under thirty minutes remaining running on the medium tyres. He would pit with the end of the session having complete thirteen laps.
