Team Summary:
The opening Friday practice for the British Grand Prix would see no cars set
a time as ten minutes were completed of the session. Both Williams drivers
had set times but the quickest time was from Norris with a 1m:31.691
followed by Hulkenberg, Robert and George. But the times would quickly
change with Bottas now fastest with a 1m:29.604 followed by Norris,
Verstappen, Leclerc, Perez and Vettel. Hamilton would go quickest with a
1m:29.118 from Verstappen and Bottas. Both Mercedes were on the medium tyre
and the Red Bull the soft. Bottas would move to teh top of the times with a
1m:27.832 followed by Hamilton, Verstappen, Gasly, Perez, Vettel, Albon,
Ricciardo, Leclerc and Sainz tenth.
The session would be red flagged when Raikkonen would stop on the edge of
the track forcing the marshals to push his car off the track. The session
would restart with forty two minutes remaining. Drivers would start to
return including both Williams cars again on the medium tyre. Bottas would
improve with a 1m:27.629 followed now by Hamilton, Vettel, Leclerc,
Verstappen, and Gasly sixth. A small amount of rain would fall seeing only
limited running. Fifteen minutes remaining and there were only eight cars
running and it did not include the Williams pair. But they would again come
out fro a further run on the medium tyre. George would improve to be 17th
but Robert was still last. Gasly would improve to be second followed by
Verstappen and Hamilton. But it would be Gasly who would set the fastest
time with a 1m:27.173 from Bottas, Verstappen, Hamilton, Leclerc, Vettel,
Hulkenberg, Ricciardo, Albon and Sainz tenth. Both Williams drivers would
complete practice starts using the intermediate tyre with the pair 17th and
20th.
Robert Kubica:
Robert would take to the track first in the opening Friday practice coming
out on the hard tyre. With close to twenty minutes of the session completed
Robert would return running on the medium tyre. A 1m:34.735 from Robert on
his first lap been the only driver to set a time. Robert would set a
1m:33.014 to be down the bottom of the times. he would improve with a
1m:32.121 to be 0.310 behind his team-mate. Robert would pit after a ten lap
run. Robert would return again on the medium tyre. He would not improve his
time and would also pit after five laps. Robert would return for another run
on the medium tyre. He would remain slowest after another five lap run.
George Russell:
Ten minutes into the session and George had yet to take to the track. But
with twenty minutes completed George would come out also running on the
medium tyre. A 1m:34.736 from George sees him just behind his team-mate.
George would improve with a 1m:32.1025 to be second dropping to third. This
would become seventh as others went quicker. George would have a moment that
would see him off onto the grass at Brooklands. he was able to continue. A
1m:31.811 from George and he would pit after a seven lap run. George was
also back out again on the medium tyre. He would set a 1m:31.452 to improve
his time but not his position. George would pit after a five lap run. Be he
would also return for another medium tyre run. George would be running with
flow viz around his bargeboards. He would improve with a 1m:30.741 to be
17th. George would pit after a seven lap run. |
