Team Summary:
The start of the second Friday practice session for the 2019 British Grand
Prix would see Raikkonen first out trying to make up for lost time in the
first session. He would set a 1m:31.868 running on the medium tyre. More
drivers would start to come out and Magnussen would set a 1m:29.595 followed
by Norris and Raikkonen. Both Williams drivers were out on soft tyre runs.
Kvyat would go quicker with a 1m:29.413. A 1m:28.311 from Norris set on the
medium tyre. Kvyat was second followed by Gasly and Magnussen. Bottas would
go quickest with a 1m:27.191 followed now by Verstappen, Leclerc, and
Hamilton.
Both Williams drivers would continue their soft tyre runs. Bottas had
improved his quickest time with a 1m:26.781 now followed by Verstappen and
Gasly. Leclerc was fourth followed by Hamilton, Norris, Hulkenberg,
Giovinazzi, Albon, and Ricciardo tenth. Vettel would move up to fifth ahead
of Hamilton. With just under an hour remaining both Williams drivers would
return both again on the soft tyre. Hamilton would go second now ahead of
Leclerc with all the drivers now on soft tyre runs. A 1m:26.732 from Bottas
as drivers struggled with the windy conditions. Leclerc was third followed
by Vettel, Gasly, and Verstappen sixth.
Forty minutes remaining and Norris was now sixth and Sainz eighth for
McLaren. It was confirmed that George would not return to the session as a
result of a gearbox issue. With fifteen minutes remaining the Virtual Safety
car would be deployed when Ricciardo would stop on the run off area after
his engine shutdown. The session would see drivers completing longer runs
with Williams focusing on a run with the hard tyre. The session would end
with Bottas quickest from Hamilton, Leclerc, Vettel, Gasly, Norris,
Verstappen, Sainz, Albon and Perez tenth. For Williams their drivers would
finish at the bottom of the times with Robert ahead of George, but George
was not able to complete his second soft tyre run so could have gone
quicker. But again the pair were over a second behind the next car in front
of them.
Robert Kubica:
Robert would also come out for a soft tyre run. A 1mn:31.952 from Robert on
his first timed lap. Robert would improve with a 1m:31.184 to move ahead of
his team-mate. Robert would pit after a seven lap run. Robert would have a
moment, spinning on the exit of Club. Robert would improve lower his time
down to a 1m:29.935 to move ahead of George. After a seven lap run Robert
would pit. With just over half an hour remaining and Robert would come back
out for another soft tyre run. Robert would pit after a four lap run. He
would return this time on the hard tyre with just over twenty minutes
remaining. He was on a long run on the hard tyre. With the end of the
session he would complete eighteen laps prior to completing a practice start
at the grid.
George Russell:
George would be first out for Williams running on the soft tyre. George
would set a 1m:31.425 to be two seconds off the quickest time. George would
improve with a 1m:30.762 to be 0.4 ahead of Robert. A further improvement
from George to see him set a 1m:30.514. George would pit after a nine lap
run. George would be forced to return to his pit with a technical issue with
his car. George had come on the radio saying that he had an anti stall in
his car and asked to use his clutch and then would enter the pit lane
looking to return to his pit. The leak was confirm as gearbox oil and that
he would take no further part in the session. |
