Team Summary:
The first lap time would be a 1m:17.939 from Sainz on the hard tyre. Both
Williams car would complete single installation laps. With ten minutes of
the session completed only the Mercedes cars had yet to come out. Fifteen
minutes completed and the track was now empty. The session would be red
flagged when Magnussen was to stop on the track with no power. His car would
be recovered and the session would restart with a large number of drivers
taking to the track with just over an hour remaining. As times weer set it
would be Bottas quickest with a 1m:14.828 on the soft tyre. he was followed
by Hamilton and Verstappen.
Bottas would set a 1m:14.805 still followed by Hamilton, Verstappen,
Leclerc, Vettel, Hulkenberg, Ricciardo, Grosjean, Sainz and Kvyat tenth.
Leclerc would improve to be second with the top three all on the soft tyres.
Both Williams drivers would complete their first runs being slowest. But
Robert was ahead of George. With the second runs commencing George was able
to move ahead of Robert while Robert remained in his pit no doubt evaluating
the new updates. Both Mercedes were on the medium tyre and Hamilton would go
quickest with a 1m:14.315. Sainz was now in third but on the soft tyre. At
the front Leclerc would go quickest with a 1m:14.268 but he was on the soft
tyre. Verstappen was now third but this would all change as Vettel went
quickest with a 1m:14.013 followed by Leclerc and Hamilton.
The Williams drivers were still slowest but were only a few tenths away from
the cars in front. Near the end of the session Bottas would take to the
gravel only managing fifth. Vettel would remain quickest from Leclerc,
Hamilton, Verstappen, Bottas, Gasly, Sainz, Grosjean, Stroll, and Ricciardo
tenth. The Williams drivers should take some encouragement from the pace
shown from the car with the updates.
Robert Kubica:
Robert would have the latest updates to evaluate during the Friday sessions.
His team-mate would run the setup that he had in Britain. Robert would
complete his installation lap running on the soft tyre. Robert would return
but would have issues with his DRS but would be forced to pit with a red
flag allowing him to have the DRS checked. With the green flag Robert would
return on new soft tyres. Robert would set a 1m:18.648 on his first timed
lap. A small improvement from Robert with a 1m:18.620. Another improvement
with a 1m:17.962 to see him behind his team-mate. Robert would pit after a
ten lap run also completing a practice pit stop. With thirty minutes
remaining Robert would return again on the soft tyre. He would set a
1m:16.559 to move up to 17th dropping to 19th. He would pit and after a
short break would return with new soft tyres and lots of flow viz on his car
as the team evaluated the aerodynamics of the new updates. Robert would pit
after a five lap run.
George Russell:
George would complete his installation lap also using soft tyres. George
would aso be forced to pit with the red flag. George would also return with
the restart also on new soft tyres. A 1m:17.931 from George to see him
currently tenth. He would improve with a 1m:17.734 dropping to 13th. He
would pit completing a practice pit stop. With forty four minutes remaining
George would return on new soft tyres. He would improve with a 1m:17.199 to
move ahead of his team-mate. A further improvement with a 1m:17.126 would
see George moves ahead of Raikkonen but the Alfa Romeo driver was on the
medium tyre. George would pit after a seven lap run. He would drop to the
bottom of the times. George would return also on soft tyres pitting after a
six lap run without improving his time. |
