The opening day of practice for
the 2019 German Grand Prix would see the ROKiT Williams Team arrive with a
array of updates ranging from new floor through to an updated rear wing.
The decision was made to have Robert Kubica run these updates on his car
while team-mate George Russell would run on what was a standard setup in
order for the team to complete back to back evaluations. Claire Williams
confirmed that the updates will also be trialled by George Russell on
Saturday.
But these teams would suffer an immediate set back when on his installation
lap Robert would suffer failures that would see parts from the new updates
fall off his car. This would see him loose a considerable period of time
early in the first Friday practice as the team worked on his car. As for
exactly what parts were affected is unknown.
When questioned by Autosport.com as to how the evaluations proceeded Robert
would say: "We didn't have an easy day - [I was] compromised already on the
installation lap. We'll have to revise everything and fix some parts in
order that they stay attached to the car.
"It's the second weekend in a row that something is breaking down.
"When you leave the garage and already on the installation lap you are,
let's say, compromised... It's very important for us to do our programme
which we set up.
"Unfortunately we were influenced by this straight away, so it wasn't an
easy day." He added: "We hope we can fix it.
"We were a bit too fragile, that's how it is, so we have to make sure
everything will stay attached to the car, and hopefully tomorrow will be a
better day."
As for whether he could provide any feedback as to whether the new updates
made any improvement Robert would try to explain that making any comparison
was difficult.
Robert would add: "conditions are completely different, the track is
different, and the tyres are operating in different windows, so it's
impossible to judge."
"Of course I have a feeling, but if you ask me to compare Silverstone, which
was 18C, with 38C and a completely different track, it's impossible to
compare unless you have a magic ball." |
