Team Summary:
The opening Friday practice session would see the usual installation laps
with the most common tyre been used being the soft. The first time would set
set by Stroll with a 1m:43.328 on the soft tyre. Stroll would improve but
Perez would move ahead with a 1m:40.862. He would lower this with a
1m:39.610. Both Williams drivers would set times as Kvyat set a 1m:38.550
followed by Sainz and Perez. Gasly was now third but more drivers were going
quicker. Ricciardo would set a 1m:37.605 to be quickest followed by Albon
and Kvyat. The Williams drivers were currently 8th and 9th. But after their
next improved lap times George was 15th and Robert 19th.
At the top of the times we now would have Hamilton fastest with a 1m:36.031
followed by Bottas, Leclerc, Vettel, Hulkenberg, Gasly, Albon, Sainz,
Ricciardo, and Grosjean in tenth. With the first forty minutes the track
would empty as drivers pitted to return their first set of tyres. Bottas
would be first back out running on the medium tyre and would go quickest
with a 1m:35.551. But Vettel on the soft tyre would go quickest with a
1m:35.005 followed by Bottas and now Verstappen and Albon. Hamilton was out
running on the medium tyre currently in fifth. Leclerc would jump up the
times to be quickest with a 1m:34.462, followed now by Vettel, Bottas and
Hamilton. Both Williams drivers were on longer runs on the soft tyre.
Verstappen would move up to fourth while team-mate Albon was sixth. The
Williams drivers were 18th and 20th with twenty minutes remaining in the
session. Verstappen was now second with under twenty minutes remaining. Both
Williams cars were back out for their next run again on the soft tyre. They
would finish the session in 18th and 20th. The top ten would be Leclerc from
Verstappen, Vettel, Bottas, Hamilton, Albon, Hulkenberg, Ricciardo, Perez
and Grosjean tenth.
Robert Kubica:
Robert would be first out in the opening Friday practice running on the hard
tyre for his two lap installation run. Robert would follow his team-mate out
also on the soft tyres. Robert would set a 1m:41.255 to be behind his
team-mate. But he would improve with a 1m:40.398 to move ahead of George by
just 0.105. Robert would continue to lap on the soft tyre and would set a
1m:39.719 to be 19th. He would pit having completed ten laps. Robert would
be first back out after the forty minute lull again on the soft tyre. Robert
would set a 1m:39.192 but remained 19th but would drop to 20th. He would
continue to lap on the soft tyre with twenty five minutes remaining. Robert
would set a 1m:38.670 but remained 20th. Robert would pit after a ten lap
run. With just over ten minutes remaining Robert was back out on new soft
tyres. Robert was running a lot of low viz on the rear diffuser but would
have a spin at Turn five but was able to continue. He would complete seven
laps at the end of the session..
George Russell:
With close to twenty minutes of the session complete George would come out
running on the soft tyre. George would set a 1m:40.548 to be 0.9 behind the
quickest time at this time, that of Perez. He would slightly improve with a
1m:40.503. He would complete six laps and would pit taking on another set of
soft tyres. He would improve with a 1m:38.761 to be 13th dropping to 15th.
He would pit again after his second four lap run. George was also back out
having dropped to 17th. George would have a brake lockup at Turn 13 and
would run wide but continued. He had dropped to 19th as he continued with a
longer run on the soft tyre. George would improve with a 1m:38.520 to now be
18th. George would pit after a seven lap run. George would also come out for
another soft tyre run. George would complete nine laps on his final run and
would pit with the end of the session. |
