Team Summary:
With the start of the opening Friday practice session for the 2019 Abu Dhabi
GP there would be a flow of drivers coming out for their installation laps,
including both Williams drivers. Leclerc would set the first time with a
1m:40.298 with Vettel a slow second. Bottas was now quickest with a
1m:38.053 followed by Leclerc and Albon. Bottas would improve with a
1m:37.975 with Albon now second. Hulkenberg was fourth behind Leclerc with
Vettel fifth. Verstappen would move into second ahead of Albon. Hamilton was
now second followed by Verstappen, Leclerc, Vettel, Albon, Hulkenberg,
Perez, Kvyat, and Stroll tenth. Bottas had improved with a 1m:37.939 while
Verstappen was again second. With fifty five minutes remaining both Williams
cars were running on the soft tyre. With the first forty minutes completed
the track would empty with the Williams drivers in 18th and 20th. Fastest
was now Hamilton with a 1m:37.591. He was followed by Bottas, Verstappen,
Vettel, Leclerc, Albon, Hulkenberg, Stroll, Perez, and Kvyat tenth.
Bottas would return running on the medium tyre and would set a 1m:36.957.
Verstappen was now in second ahead of Hamilton. The session would be red
flagged when Ricciardo would suffer an engine failure with flames coming
from his Renault. The Williams drivers would pit currently in 17th and 19th.
The track would be cleaned of Ricciardo's oil which had covered a
considerable part of the track. The session would restart with fifteen
minutes remaining. Both Williams drivers would return remaining on soft
tyres. But as the session drew to a close the team would switch one driver
to the medium tyre. With the session coming to a close Vettel would spin
seeing his car crash into the barrier doing extensive damage to the rear of
the car. It would see the session again red flagged and would end. Bottas
was still quickest from Verstappen, Hamilton, Albon, Vettel, Grosjean,
Leclerc, Magnussen, Giovinazzi, and Hulkenberg tenth. The Williams team
would see their drivers 18th and 20th, again slowest. Robert would finish
ahead of George by a reasonable margin. But despite this the team would have
worked through their programme in the session. Even with resports of his
illness George would complete the most laps of any driver in the session.
George Russell:
George would follow his team-mate with the start of the session running also
on the soft tyre, pitting after a single lap. With fifteen minutes of the
session completed George would return again on the soft tyre but he would
return to the pit lane briefly coming back out. He would return to the pit
lane for further adjustments. George would return and was able to set a
1m:42.742 to be behind his team-mate. George would be able to find further
time with a 1m:41.362 to be 0.8 ahead of his team-mate. George would pit
after a six lap run. George would return and with thirty five minutes
remaining he would set a 1m:41.362 using the soft tyre. But he would be
forced to pit with the red flag having completed five laps. With the green
flag George would return again on soft tyres but he would return to his pit
after a single lap. Again he would return on the soft tyre and would pit
with the second red flag having completed six laps.
Robert Kubica:
Robert would be first out in the session running on the soft tyre. Robert
would pit after a single lap. With an hour and ten minutes remaining Robert
would return again on the soft tyre. His first lap was a 1m:44.122 to be
well off the times at the front. Robert would improve with a 1m:42.520 but
was still the slowest of the times set. Robert would improve with a
1m:42.188 and would pit after a nine lap run. Robert would return with just
over forty minutes remaining. He was on the soft tyre and would set a
1m:41.081 a big improvement. Robert would pit with the red flag having
completed six laps. Robert would return on the soft tyre but would only
complete two laps prior to pitting. With five minutes remaining Robert would
return on the medium tyre. But his run would end with a red flag.. |
