Team Summary:
The second Friday practice session would see a very slow start with rain
having fallen on the circuit for a short time prior to the session start.
The first car of Giovinazzi did not come out until twenty minutes of the
session was completed. He would be joined by Raikkonen. Both Haas cars had
required engine changes so they may not come out in the session. Giovinazzi
would set a 1m:49.716 running on the medium tyre. Raikkonen would go
quickest with a 1m:46.402. More drivers would start to come out including
both Renault's and AlphaTauri. Both Williams drivers were out for their
first run. Ocon was now quickest using the medium tyre with a 1m:45.445.
Ricciardo was second with Kvyat and Gasly third and fourth. The Williams
drivers would set their times and were currently 10th and 12th as Bottas
went quickest with a 1m:44.658 using the medium tyre.
Perez was now second with Hamilton third using the hard tyre. Albon was
fourth followed by the Renault's. Red Bull team-mate Verstappen would go
quickest with a 1m:44.354 using the medium tyre. Stroll was now in third
followed by Perez, Albon and Hamilton sixth. The Williams drivers were 16th
and 17th. With under an hour remaining Hamilton would move up to second.
Bottas was third followed by Stroll, Perez, Albon, Norris, Ocon, Ricciardo,
and Sainz tenth. The Williams drivers were 17th and 18th and effectively
last. With fifty fie minutes remaining the track was now empty. With forty
five minutes remaining drivers would start to come out for soft tyre runs
including both Williams cars.
Hamilton would set a 1m:43.840 on the soft tyre to go quickest. Albon was
now up to second but Verstappen would improve to go quickest with am
1m:43,774 now follwoed by Ricciardo, Hamilton and Albon. The Williams
drivers were in 15th and 17th with George ahead of Nicholas. The pair were
separated by just 0.3s. The top ten was Verstappen, Ricciardo, Hamilton,
Albon, Perez, Bottas, Norris, Ocon, Sainz and Gasly tenth. The Williams
drivers were currently in 16th and 18th as both Haas cars finally were able
to come out for their first timed laps of the day. Ricciardo would be told
to stop his car and he would pull off just past Eau Rouge. The session would
be red flagged with debris on the track after Turn one. They were
advertising banners that had been knocked lose.
The session would restart with ten minutes remaining the track would become
busy as drivers came out for their final runs. This would include both
Williams drivers with teh pair now running on the medium and hard tyres.
Both would continue what should have been longer runs in the short time left
in the session. The session would end with the Williams drivers remaining in
16th and 18th. The top ten was Verstappen from Ricciardo, Hamilton, Albon,
Perez, Bottas, Norris, Ocon, Sainz, and Gasly tenth. For Williams racing it
was a session that showed that they are still lacking pace compared to their
2020 rivals but once again it has been a step forward over 2019.
George Russell:
With just over seventy minutes remaining George would take to the track
running on the medium tyre. George would set a 1m:46.600 to currently be
seventh but he would drop to 12th. George been told by his engineer that
Nicholas was braking 5m later at Turn 18. George had improved slightly with
a 1m:46.502 but he would pit after a seven lap run. With just over forty
five minutes remaining George would return this time on the soft tyre.
George would set a 1m:45.463 to be tenth dropping to 15th. He would pit
after a four lap soft tyre run. After a short stop George would return on a
new set of soft tyres. He would complete a six lap run but would not see any
improvement. He would change to a set of mediums and would return. He would
only complete two lap but would have to stop with a red flag. George would
also return this time on the medium tyre. He would pit after a five lap run
as the session ended.
Nichols Latifi:
Nicholas would follow his team-mate out but was on the hard tyre. His first
timed lap would be a 1m:47.819 to finish one place behind his team-mate. But
and Alfa Romeo would split them seeing Nicholas now ninth. He would dropt to
14th. This would become 18th as Nicholas completed to lap the circuit. He
would pit after a seven lap run on the hard tyres. Nicholas would also come
out for a soft tyre run. Nicholas would set a 1m:45.774 to be 16th on his
soft tyre run. He would drop to 17th. He would pit after a five lap run.
After a short stop he would return for a further soft tyre run. He would pit
after an eight lap run coming in due to a red flag. With the session restart
Nicholas would return but this time on the hard tyre. Nicholas would pit
after a six lap run on the hard tyre as the session ended. |
