Team Summary:
Saturday's practice session at Mugello would commence with Magnussen first
out using the medium tyre. He would be joined by both McLaren's and the
Alpha Tauri's. They would all pit after single laps with Bottas been next
out. On the soft tyre he would set a 1m:17.437. Ten minutes into the session
and the track was now empty. Next out would be Raikkonen with fifteen
minutes of the session completed. He was running on the soft tyre as
Giovinazzi also came out along with other drivers. Both Alfa Romeo's were on
the soft tyre as Raikkonen was now second followed by Giovinazzi. As more
times were set Leclerc was now second using the medium. Hamilton was now
fastest using the soft tyre with a 1m:17.415. Stroll on the medium was now
third ahead of Leclerc and Albon.
Verstappen on the medium tyre would split the Mercedes going into second but
he would improve with a 1m:17.116 to go quickest. Bottas was second followed
by Hamilton, Stroll, Leclerc, Albon, Gasly, Raikkonen, Perez, and Ocon
tenth. Of the top ten only the Mercedes set their times on the soft tyre the
rest had used the medium. After a lull in the track activity Bottas would
return again on the soft tyre to set a 1m:16.530 to again be quickest.
Hamilton was also running along with both Ferrari's. Hamilton was now second
behind his team-mate. As more drivers et soft tyre times Verstappen remained
in teh pits but Gasly was now fourth followed by Leclerc, Stroll, Kvyat,
Grosjean, Sainz, and Giovinazzi tenth. The only Williams to set a time was
currently 13th. Grosjean and Ocon would move into ninth and tenth seeing
Sainz and Giovinazzi out of this group. The only Williams with a time was
now 16th.
So the top ten would be Bottas, Verstappen, Hamilton, Stroll, Gasly, Perez,
Leclerc, Albon, Kvyat, and Grosjean tenth. Ocon had dropped to 11th while
for Williams it was a positive session for one driver and a major
disappointment for another. Qualifying will be very much a session where the
results for Williams are hard to assess and whether they can get past Q1
will be interesting to see. Nicholas could pull off a surprise by making it
into Q2 while George's chances is any bodies guess, but based on previous
sessions has a good chance to get into Q2.
Nicholas Latifi:
Nicholas would leave the pit lane first out for Williams using the soft
tyre. He would set a 1m:18.904 to currently be fourth. He would drop down
the order to be eleventh. He would pit currently 13th. While in the pits he
would drop to 15th. With fifteen minutes remaining Nicholas would return
again on the soft tyre and would improve with a 1m:18.072 to currently be
sixth. he would quickly drop to 12th. As he pitted he was now 14th after a
short four lap run. This would become 15th as he returned for another soft
tyre run in what should be a true qualifying simulation but surprisingly he
would pit again making it look like he was completing possible practice
starts at the end of the pit lane.
George Russell:
George would also come out using the soft tyre with twenty minutes
completed. But he would pit without setting a time. Reports would have him
with a total failure of the brake by wire system with his brake peddle going
to the floor. He would remain in his garage for the remainder of the session
with the issue such that it could not be fixed during the session. |
