Team Summary:
The opening eighteen minute period of qualifying for the 2021 Hungarian GP
would commence with Tsunoda out first followed by both Alfa Romeos, all on
the soft tyre. Mazepin would join them while Schumacher's car was still
being repaired and unlikely to take part. A 1m:18.163 from Tsunoda with
Mazepin second. But Raikkonen was now quickest with a 1m:17.963 now followed
by Giovinazzi and Tsunoda. More cars were now running including both
Williams and Mercedes. Joining them were the McLaren's as the track become
busy. A 1m:16.610 from Bottas but Hamilton would go ahead with a 1m:16.424
to be quickest. But Verstappen would move ahead with a 1m:16.214 ahead of
Hamilton and Bottas. Gasly was fourth followed by Norris, Ricciardo,
Raikkonen and Giovinazzi. The Williams drivers were 10th and 11th. As more
times were set they would drop to 17th and 18th.
Sainz was now fourth followed by Gasly, Norris, Leclerc, Alonso, Perez, and
Ocon tenth. The Williams drivers were now 17th and 18th. After their first
runs drivers would start to return for their second runs. This would include
both Williams drivers with two minutes remaining. Everyone would be on slow
preparation laps as the first flying laps started. The Williams drivers
would complete their second runs but would remain in 17th and 18th.
Verstappen remained quickest from Hamilton, Bottas, Sainz, Gasly, Stroll,
Norris, Leclerc, Vettel, and Alonso tenth.
The second period would see Sainz crash his Ferrari seeing him out of
qualifying. This would see the period Red Flagged. The Mercedes of Bottas
and Hamilton had been able to use the medium tyre which is a standard
practice at certain tracks. The remaining fourteen cars were all on the soft
tyre with the restart. With the end of the period it would be Verstappen
from Norris, Gasly, Perez, Alonso, Hamilton, Leclerc, Bottas, Ocon and
Vettel tenth. So we would see both Mercedes start on the medium tyre while
Red Bull would be using the soft. The final period would see everyone on the
soft tyre and with the first runs it would be Hamilton from Bottas with
Verstappen third. Perez was fourth followed by Leclerc, Ocon, Gasly, Alonso,
Norris, and Vettel who had yet to set a time.
Vettel would be out first to be running by himself and would move into
eighth as other drivers started to return for their second runs. With the
end of the period it would remain Hamilton quickest from Bottas, Verstappen,
Perez, Gasly, Norris, Leclerc, Ocon, Alonso and Vettel tenth. So with the
end of qualifying Williams racing would see their drivers down in 17th and
18th which was somewhat of a surprise. |
