Team Summary:
The final Saturday practice session for the 2022 Hungarian Grand Prix would
be run under wet conditions with having having started to fall earlier in
the day. Both Ferrari's and Norris were out running all on the full wet
tyre. More drivers were coming out including both Alpines, both Alfa Romeos
and Alpha Tauri's. Alonso was using the intermediate tyre as the first
Williams came out. Leclerc was quickest with a time of 1m:43.364 followed by
Sainz and Norris. Ricciardo was now third from Norris, Schumacher, Stroll,
Zhou, Ocon, Magnussen, and Gasly tenth. On the intermediate Alonso was now
third ahead of Ricciardo, Stroll, Norris, Tsunoda, and Zhou eighth.
The rain would get heavier as the majority of drivers pitted after their
first runs. Neither Red Bull's or Hamilton had come out with forty minutes
remaining. We would be left with Bottas and the two Haas cars left running.
Schumacher would jump up to third followed by Vettel and Stroll as the rain
eased. Vettel would improve to be second ahead od Sainz in third. Magnussen
was now fourth followed by Schumacher, Stroll, Alonso, Ricciardo, Tsunoda
and Norris tenth. The Williams pair were currently 12th and 18th. Gasly
would improve to be tenth right behind his team-mate.
With both Williams drivers having completed second runs on the full wet tyre
with the pair now seventh and 13th and were now back out on the intermediate
tyre with just under fifteen minutes remaining. Neither Williams driver was
able to improve on the intermediate tyre as we had Vettel crash while on the
intermediate tyre seeing the session Red Flagged. The session would be
restarted with just minutes remaining seeing one of the Williams come out
again remaining on the intermediate. On their final runs the Williams pair
would make the best use of the intermediate tyre to see them finish the
session in first and third. The session would end with the order Nicholas,
Leclerc, and Alex followed by Verstappen, Russell, Alonso, Sainz, Norris,
Vettel and Magnussen tenth.
Was such a memorable result for the
Williams team just to
show that they could achieve a good result given the right circumstances. It
was not like Nicholas was the last car to set a time. He was followed over
the track by others so his time was a genuine one based on getting the best
out of the intermediates.
Alex Albon:
With close to ten minutes of the session completed Alex would take to the
track using the full wet tyre. He would set a 1m:48.787 to be 12th. He would
drop to 14th but with a 1m:46.899 he would improve to be eighth dropping to
ninth as he pitted having said he was starting to get aquaplaning on the
main straight. In the pits he would drop to 13th. But he would return for a
further run again remaining on the full wet tyre. He had dropped to 14th but
a 1m:44.919 would see Alex jump up to sixth. He would pit and return on the
intermediate tyre. He would not improve his time pitting with a Red Flag
having completed four laps. Alex would return for a last run using the
intermediate tyre. His last lap was a 1m:42.381 which would see him finish
third in the session, a great result for the team.
Nicholas Latifi:
With close to fifteen minutes completed Nicholas would come out using the
full wet tyre. His first time would be a 1m:50.893 to be 17th. Nicholas
would improve with a 1m:49.243 to remain 17th. He would drop to 18th as he
returned for a second run on the wet tyre. He would improve with a time of
1m:47.839 to again be 17th. But a 1m:45.914 would see Nicholas 12th dropping
to 13th as he pitted after a four lap run. He would return for a run on the
intermediate tyre currently 14th and would pit after a three lap run. With
the restart he would return again on the intermediate. On his final run he
would set a 1m:41.480 to go quickest on what was admittedly a drying track.
An amazing effiort as he was followed across the line by other cars also on
the intermediate tyre.
