Team Summary:
The second Friday practice session for the 2022 Mexican Grand Prix was
another of Pirelli's 2023 tyre evaluations. On the test tyre Verstappen was
quickest with a 1m:22.464 but Gasly moved past with a 1m:22.186 now followed
by Verstappen and Perez. Sainz was now quickest on the test tyre with Gasly
now second followed by Verstappen. Leclerc, Perez, Hamilton, Russell,
Alonso, Ocon, and Ricciardo tenth. Russell and Ocon were running on the
medium tyre. And it would be Russell who would move to the top of the times
with a 1m:21.742 from Sainz and Gasly. Tsunoda also been able to run on the
medium tyre was now third. Perez was now fastest with a 1m:21.579 using the
test tyre followed by Verstappen, Sainz, and Russell.
Now on the soft Russell would set a 1m:19.970 to be quickest with Tsunoda
now second also on the soft tyre. They would be joined by Ocon in third also
on the soft tyre as Hamilton was now fourth on the test tyre. Perez was
fifth followed by Verstappen, Leclerc, Sainz, Bottas and Gasly tenth.
Outside the top three the other drivers were all on the 2023 test tyres. But
the session would be Red Flagged as Leclerc put is car backwards into the
barrier. With just under forty minutes remaining the session would restart
with a rush of drivers coming out. The session would wind down with all
drivers now using the Pirelli test tyre. Both Williams drivers continued to
lap on the test tyre as the session drew to a close.
It would come to an end with another Red Flag for a car stopped at the side
of the track. The order was Russell from Tsunoda, Ocon, Hamilton, Perez,
Verstappen, Leclerc, Sainz, Bottas, and Gasly tenth. The Williams drivers
would remain 13th and 19th positions from which no real comparison could be
made.
Alex Albon:
Having missed FP1 Alex would get to use regular tyres in the FP2. With
twenty minutes of the session completed Alex had yet to take to the track.
With an hour and five minutes remaining Alex would come out running on the
soft tyre. Alex would finish with a 1m:22.447 to be 13th pitting after just
a three lap run. He would say "We are well out with balance. Completely off.
We're like 2% forwards on brake bal or something. The fronts were graining
on the out-lap as well. Just no bite on the front tyres at all". With the
restart of the session Alex would return but this time on the test tyre and
would complete nine laps prior to the end of the session.
Nicholas Latifi:
Nicholas would be required to run on Pirelli's development tyres for the
session. He would set a 1m:25.049 but any comparison was impossible.
Nicholas would complain that his up shifts were quite harsh. Nicholas was
now 14th and had pitted after a five lap run with a best of 1m:24.053. He
would drop to 17th as he returned for another test tyre run. He would
improve with a 1m:23.320 to now be 14th. He would pit after another five lap
test tyre run currently 15th. He would drop to 17th and with the session
restart would return again on the test tyre. He would drop to 19th to be
behind the two Haas cars. He would pit after a nine lap run ending his
session. |
