Team Summary:
Williams Racing would see their regular drivers back in place for the second
Friday practice session for the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. With the session
being run at the same time as qualifying it took on even more importance for
the teams. With the start of the session there would be a constant flow of
cars coming out including both Williams with a mix of the medium and hard
tyres with the Williams drivers on a mixed run plan. Vettel was quickest
with a 1m:28.120 but Bottas would move ahead with a 1m:27.717 as it all
changed behind him. But the quickest time was taken by Leclerc with a
1m:26.045 followed by Ocon, Verstappen, Perez and Bottas. The Williams pair
were currently 16th and 17th but we would see one car jump up to be 13th.
But just as quickly this car would drop to be 17th and the second 18th.
Leclerc was still quickest with Ocon now second followed by Russell, Sainz,
Verstappen, Perez, Gasly, Magnussen, Vettel and Alonso tenth. Sainz would
move into third with Verstappen now fourth followed by Perez and Russell.
After improved runs the Williams drivers were now 16th and 17th but as more
times came in they would drop to be 18th and 20th. At the front Verstappen
was now quickest with a 1m:25.449 from Leclerc and now Russell. Of the top
ten Verstappen was the first to switch to the soft tyre so his quickest time
was now surprising. Both Williams drivers had switched to the soft tyre for
their next runs and their runs would see the pair ninth and 12th. This would
become 10th and 14th as more soft times were set.
Verstappen had improved with a 1m:25.335 followed by Leclerc, Perez, Ocon,
Sainz, Bottas, Russell, Hamilton, Tsunoda and Alex tenth. Russell would go
second behind Verstappen ahead of Leclerc with Hamilton now fourth while the
Williams pair were now 14th and 19th. With twenty minutes remaining in the
session Verstappen was still quickest from Russell, Leclerc, Hamilton,
Perez, Sainz, Ocon, Alonso, Ricciardo and Bottas tenth. Drivers started to
come out for longer runs including both Williams. The session would come to
a close and the top eight cars were all out running on the medium tyre as
they prepared for the race. The session would end with Verstappen remaining
quickest from Russell and Leclerc. The Williams pair would remain in 16th
and 20th as they completed their session with their longer runs. This
session does seem to show the true pace of the Williams drivers so their
prospects for qualifying are looking difficult unless they can find
something overnight.
Alex Albon:
Alex would follow his team-mate out using the hard tyre. Alex would set a
slow 1m:46.269 to currently be 17th. But he would improve with a 1m:28.603
to be 13th dropping to 17th. A 1m:27.993 would see Alex now 15th. He would
drop to be 16th one place ahead of his team-mate and after a seven lap run
would pit. He would drop to be 18th with forty two minutes remaining. He
would return on the soft tyre and with a 1m:26.750 he would be ninth. This
would become tenth as more times came in. He would pit after a six lap soft
tyre run currently 14th. He would drop to be 16th and would return on used
hard tyres. He would complete fourteen laps on the hard tyre as the session
came to an end.
Nicholas Latifi:
Nicholas would be first out in the session running on the medium tyre. His
first time was a 1m:30.695 would see him drop down the order to be 15th.
Despite a 1m:28.757 Nicholas was now 18th and slowest but he would improve
with a 1m:28.425 to be 17th. He would pit after a seven lap run and in his
garage he would drop to be 20th. His next run would see him out on the soft
tyre. A 1m:27.262 would see Nicholas move to be 12th. He would drop to 15th
as other times came in. He would pit after a seven lap run currently 19th.
He would drop to 20th and would return for a further run on used soft tyres.
As the session drew to a close Nicholas would pit and return on medium tyres
for a run that would complete his session with a nine lap run. |
