As morale surrounding Wolverhampton Wanderers continues to lie rock bottom the Wolves faithful were given a little "pick me up" today with the news that Gary Breen had become Wolves first signing of the Summer.

The 32 year old Republic Of Ireland international joined following his departure from Sunderland at the end of last season. It may seem a little strange for Wolves to sign a 32 year old considering we are in the age of a "new, young and hungry" Wolverhampton Wanderers, but Breen's arrival is a new signing none the less and one which was in urgent need as first team players publicly declared their concern for the depleted squad.

Breen has signed a two year deal at Molineux and appeared delighted to have arrived. "I am happy it's now been completed and I can get down to things." Breen told the clubs official website

"Things are different for Wolves at this time, and a lot like they were at Sunderland two years ago when a lot of the experienced players left and young players were brought into the side, along with players from the lower leagues.

"It wasn't easy but we won the First Division Championship that year and we were promoted. I don't really know any of the boys here, although I have played against several of them, and I played against Jody Craddock in schoolboy and youth football, as young professionals.

"As an outsider looking in I have found it hard to see why Wolves haven't made the top six in the last couple of years, we identified them as one of our biggest threats when I was at Sunderland, and now I am excited by the prospect of playing my part in helping the club mount a challenge."

Breen was joined at Molineux today by 30 year old former blues man Jamie Clapham. The centre half has joined the club for the week with a view to signing a permanent deal.
