Clapham Offered Wolves Contract

WOLVERHAMPTON Wanderers have offered a contract to former Birmingham City midfielder Jamie Clapham - but the defender is currently on trial with Sheffield United.

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy offered Clapham a deal on Thursday following his decent performance in the 2-0 win over Crewe Alexandra at Gresty Road on Wednesday evening.

However Sheffield United have now taken the 30 year old on trial as he weighs up his options. The former Blues man is naturally holding out for a contract with Premiership new boys Sheffield United, but if one is not offered he will more than likely put pen to paper on a deal at Molineux.

Clapham played in Sheffield United's pre-season game at Rotherham last night and their boss Neil Warnock told the clubs official website "I think he has been offered a contract by Wolves where he has also been on trial so we owe him a quick decision,"

The Wolves boss knows he is need of new players and the defensive frailties were all to evident in the 3-0 home defeat to Aston Villa earlier today.
