Eastwood, Ward and Jarvis Make Debut's In 0-0 Draw

FREDDY Eastwood, Matt Jarvis and Darren Ward all made debut's for Wolves today in the first pre-season friendly of the 2007/08 season. Despite the three new signings the game ended goalless.

The first game of the new Steve Morgan era ended goalless at Grays Athletic today however boss Mick McCarthy was keen to stress after the game that the match was better suited as a fitness exercise rather than a footballing showpiece.

The Wolves boss made full use of his squad by making no fewer than 10 changes at the break. The only player to stay on the pitch for longer than 45 minutes was goalkeeper Wayne Hennessy who was playing in place of the injured Matt Murray.

The game was a tepid affair with neither side making many clear cut opportunities. The better chances of the first half fell to Wolves with Knowles in the Grays goal making smart saves from Lewis Gobern and Gary Breen.

Matt Jarvis making his debut after his summer signing from Gillingham looked bright and came close when his angled effort was cleared off the line by Andy Sambrook.

The second half was all change and Darren Ward made his debut at the back along side Neil Collins. Big money signing Freddy Eastwood (pictured) made his debut alongside Jay Bothroyd in attack.

The game continued in the same style as the first half  with neither side creating many decent opportunities. The closest either side came to opening the scoring was from Wolves Striker Jay Bothroyd, however his low shot was turned off the line by Adam Gross.

Wolves now travel to Ireland where they will play two friendly games. The first comes against Bray Wanderers on Wednesday before Stephen Ward faces his old side Bohemians on Sunday.

A trip to Doncaster Rovers awaits Wolves on the 25th July before consecutive away games against Cheltenham Town and Northampton Town. The pre-season programme ends with a home game against Reading on the 4th August. The Championship season kicks off against Watford a week later live on SKY.
