Cort on Camera

With a lack of Premier League football this weekend, there was space in the calendar for one or two interesting stories about former Wolves players.

Those of you with little interest in the Scottish First Division may not be aware that the current manager of Partick Thistle is former Wolves and Scotland fullback Jackie McNamara. But, while steering the Glasgow based side to seventh (albeit out of ten) in the league, Jackie Mac is involving himself in a new venture.

According to Chortle.com, Jackie has written the pilot of a new sitcom, The Therapy Room, which saw its first screening in an Edinburgh cinema last week. The plot is based around a camera which professional footballers talk in to, to unload their problems. However, being footballers, they don’t use it purely for spilling their woes…. I’ll leave this scene to your imagination.

On a perhaps equally bizarre note, Carl Cort finally excused himself from that famous question of footballers who cost over £7m and never played international football. Yes, Cort, who scored 32 goals in 82 starts for Wolves, finally made his long awaited international debut, over a decade since his final appearance for England under 21s. Cort, without a club since being released by Brentford last January, has finally pulled on the international shirt of Guyana aged 34.

Cort was obviously an inspiration to his teammates as they defeated a Kenwyne Jones led Trinidad and Tobago 2-1. Although the name Cort was on the score sheet, it was in fact his younger sibling, Leon who scored the decisive 81^st minute goal to guarantee three points.  This result leaves Guyana top of Group B and guaranteed a place in the final North, Central America and Caribbean qualifying stage for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil. Unfortunately, with big-hitters Mexico also in their group, automatic qualification looks unlikely, and Cort’s lack of domestic football could hamper his chances
