Match Thread V Newcastle (Away, 17/09/16)

By Badge32
September 17 2016

Wolves travel to Newcastle in hope of putting things right after the disaster of Tuesday's 4-0 drubbing to Barnsley. However things do look a little bleak for the away support as Newcastle are on a good run.

Match facts

After losing this season's first two matches, Newcastle have won five straight league games, netting 15 goals.Following Tuesday's 4-0 home defeat by Barnsley,

Wolves have not kept a clean sheet in any of their last 11 away league games.

Newcastle have conceded just one goal in the second half of Championship games this season - two fewer than any other team.

Walter Zenga's Wolves have failed to find the net in three of their last five league games.

Newcastle are unbeaten in their last six league meetings with Wolves, since a 1-0 defeat at Molineux in April 1993.

Wolves have scored in each of their last 10 league games against Newcastle, although they have only kept one clean sheet in that time.

Wolves last beat Newcastle in 2003. A 3-2 FA cup home win. There have been 4 draws and 2 defeats since.

You have to go back to 1991 for Wolves last win at Newcatle.

More wholesale changes i see from Zenga. Five from the starting lineup with Stearman, Price and Wallace not even makingthe bench despite starting in the week. It really is getting pathetic now with this constant chopping and changing.

I must admit i wasn't expecting this, but it does show is how little the loons on the mix know when they claim we need to play 2 upfront and their constant derogatory comments about Dave Edwards. I don't know how true it is but i saw a comment the other day about our win ratio with/without Edwards where it was claimed to be a lot better when he plays. He didn't even make the 18 against Barnsley in the week where we got thrashed yet was in the starting xi in our win today.

Dave Edwards is a decent player and get sick of the constant hatred towards him from the troll mob that seem to lurk on forums. Newcastle win 6-0, wolves lose 4-0 mid week yet wolves beat newcastle summing up the lottery of football as we see time and time again.

What it also illustrates is that our new signings are a cut above much of the dross that was here last season such as Saiss who has come in having an excellent game by all accounts. It emphasises if Zenga had the brains he was born with, he would have put this lineup out midweek instead of the 11 that got smashed 4 zip and wouldnt be surprised to seem him alter the starting eleven again next game meaning we go back to dropping more points. It's fair to say without the continual rotation, the starting eleven that played today would have far more points on the board

Thing is he'll probably change the lineup on Tuesday against Newcastle in the Cup game, and who would blame him? However no matter how well that team plays you would expect him to go back to this side next Saturday.

Re: Match Thread V Newcastle (Away, 17/09/16)
Posted by: wilkowolves (IP Logged)

I would imagine changes will be made in midweek as it's a cup game and given most managers seem to do that it's not something that he can really be criticised for. However most normal managers would then revert back to the team that played today, barring injuries and suspensions, but with Zenga i thoroughly expect him to make these constant and needless changes.

Yes maybe he has hit on a way to play the forward talent from the start without leaving us weaker in defence.

One things for sure you cant just play 3 cloggers in midfield and hope to win you need at least one who can pass the ball (like we had with Mcdonald) maybe Saiss is the man.
