October 15 2016

As it is on tv we may not get much interest on this page today but I will still set it up anyway. Wolves travel to Villa Park for a derby game against Aston Villa who have been boosted by the arrival of a new head coach in Steve Bruce who at one time could have succeeded Magic Merlin at Wolves. Our record against the Villa is not great as you can see below.

Match facts

Aston Villa have won nine and lost just one of their last 14 league games against Wolves.

Wolves beat Villa 3-1 at Villa Park on the 10th March 1980. Since then the 2 sides have met 20 times with Wolves winning just once. 19th March 2011, a 1-0 win at Villa Park.

Wolves are unbeaten in their last three at Villa Park, winning one and drawing two.

Villa have picked up more cards than any other Championship team this season (36 yellows).

Wolves have lost their last two matches. They have not suffered three defeats in a row since February 2016.

Villa have won just one of their opening 11 games for the second season in a row and only the fourth time in their history.

This will be the 10th meeting during the month of October, Wolves won the first 2-1 but have drawn 5 and lost 3 since.

Three good positions with free-kicks and done nothing with them. Now Villa have one.

Cavaleiro should have scored, good block though denied him.

I watched it in a bar without any sound on so it was hard to really get into and concentrate fully on the game. However from what i saw the referee wasn't the best but you can't rely on the referee's and to blame him is a poor excuse. We dominated that 2nd half but didn't do enough when through on goal and if you take away the penalty only 1 of our 10 shots was on target and at this level that's not good enough. Maybe the referee could have gave us another penalty and/or sent one of their players off but no one can prove that would have made a difference.

I agree to a certain extent, we had the chances and opportunities to win it and should have done which can be put down to some poor finishing, some lack of composure / creativity in the final third, some good last gasp defending and definitely some bad luck. I was surprised how bad Villa in that second half, the occupants of the Holte End requiring binoculars to watch most of that half!

Whilst we should have killed it off, no doubt, the ref was so poor. One definite penalty missed, maybe two and one definite Villa sending off maybe two. Also how many times did he fail to allow the advantage ? In general Blaming the ref is the easy option, but on balance I think he influenced yesterdays result by failure to act.

we seem to get bad referees when we play villa last home match in premier league cant remember the players but a wolves player was fouled badly in the penalty area no penalty and the villa man was last man should of been sent off as you know villa won a certain robbie keane scored

Think I might be OK with a point this weekend.
