Match thread: Europa League Torino v Wolves 22/8/19 KO 8pm

Massive in the 40s and last winning Serie A in 1975/76 Torino play host to Wolves this evening at the 28,000 Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino. Torino, who have yet to start their league campaign (first fixture at home versus Sassuolo this coming Sunday), stand in Wolves' path for a place in the Europa League 'proper'. Hopefully our team will carry the confidence of picking up a valuable point v a seemingly more competitve Manchester United side on Monday night. Of note, Torino finished 7th in Serie A, as with us in the Premier League, so a much tougher prospect over two legs than we have experienced in this competition so far!

Why should Ruddy start , this isnt the league cup- why would we risk the clubs first journey in European football for half a century by playing a reserve keeper ? 
Lets put out the under 18s while we're at it.. Ruddy is paid by wolves to play when his manager deems fit and wolves getting into the Europa league group stage is far more important than giving a player game time. Cant believe what I'm reading tbh

Under 18s??!! Have you seen Ruddy's hair line? Decent keeper is our John, it wouldn't worry me in the slightest were he selected. A different kettle of fish from bringing in, say, Kilman for Boly. As for our number 1 (or 11) Rui, can't argue with that wonder save on Monday night, quite superb .... kicking still requires a bit of therapy however.

Thanks for sorting the thread tonight Ivybridge Wolf. I have managed to convince a bar owner here in Crete to find a stream for tonight’s game for me. I’m working on him for Sunday’s game, but so far all he can find is a stream from Israel!! Here’s hoping!

Raul has a great chance to go alone or set up Traore or Jota, crummy pass, then ref falls down and Wolves player gets lumped on the ground, torino go up, attack shot well wide. Exciting minute! Raul really should have done better there

A really good half of cup football.
They've put pressure on and overall I have to say we are defending really well. We are, as normal, a threat going forward but have been gulty of being a bit wasteful IMO. Good Wolves performance though

A scrappy half full of fouls , the goal for wolves probably going against the run of play with neither keeper having much to do ( apart from the faintest tough from Patricio pushing a shot onto the bar that was missed justifying his starting place). It seems to be a fairly hostile atmosphere , plenty of noise from Torino fans. At the end of the half Belotti kicks Traore in the head and throws himself to the ground looking for a penalty and gets deserved booked the ugly little runt. I didn't know away goals count at this stage so it'd be potentially a tie ending moment if we could grab a second as one away goal doesnt count at all. The only way wolves could go through on " away goals " with a 1-0 score is if the second leg is goal less which is unlikely but possible I suppose.
In any event if it finished 1-0, it'd be great to take a lead back to molineux

Its 2019 and all this fcking around just to watch a football game , its outrageous and something needs to be done about it. I'd bring in season tickets for clubs online where for a fee of whatever you can have a decent stream to every match home and away - people would still go to games and it would increase revenue so why they dont do it Ive no idea. The alternative is having to click on boxes on sordid disease riddled wh0res peddling their wares to entice some lonely sexually deprived soul to part with credit card details when all they want to do is watch a football game.

You've lost me IVy but think about it logically , what score could wolves get through on away goals taking a 1-0 lead into the second leg? The only one would be 0-0 at home , any other score would simply be going through on aggregate or going out

Worthy of mentioning the ref for the 4th. Neto was brought down, again cynically, during the initial stages of Jimenez’s run to go. Linesman flagged, ref played the advance but Raul still had loads to do. Great refereeing

I remmeber a few years ago being lambasted on here for having the audacity to state the playoffs were a failure instead of automatic promotion- who'd have thought we would be leading Torino 3-1 away in a European competition

Torino need to win by 2 clear goals with the away goal rule unless they manage 3 at Molineux - cant see it but tie not over. A great result despite vinegar up to his usual tricks of sub standard performances.. what a save from patricio near the end from the long range shot as well

Really enjoyed that, quite an european encounter.
We deserved to win, scrappy at times, always full blooded .... excellent efforts from the lads. Some terrible tackles going in, so hope everybody is okay.
2-3 is obviously not as good as 1-3 but a great advantage to take to Molineux. In reality Torino must win it by 2 goals. Fingers crossed they won’t sniff it.
I’m up again on Sunday v Burnley ..... cor wait!
